Parking (for beginners)

edited March 2012 in Local discussion
No inflammatory remarks here (i hope). Please point me in the direction of an old thread should this have been discussed before (i'm sure it has). My brother, his partner and baby are visiting and will need to park overnight. The council's website doesn't seem to suggest an option that isn't a rip-off SO, can anyone tell me the best option for someone just wanting to stay for one night in the Sgr/Tollington park area? Ta.

 •
First step, go outside and find the lamp post nearest your house. This will have the parking restrictions for your road displayed on it.

If in doubt check here, http://www.islington.gov.uk/DownloadableDocuments/TransportandStreets/Pdf/cpz_map_mar_09.pdf

If you're in Tollington Park you are Zone J, evenings after 6.30pm are fine except for Arsenal's home match days when it's after 8.30pm. You can check when Arsenal are playing at home on their website.

 • What Miss Annie said, plus

You can also buy visitor vouchers from the council, they come in books of half hour, three hour and all-day (except that's actually a lie, they last six hours or something).

Alternatively, park outside of insanity zone J in another zone where restrictions run for a more reasonable four hours in the middle of the day. Up above Hanley Road, in Ormond / Grenville Road area they run 10 to 2.

That's as much as I can write on the subject without falling into a council residents parking scam rant.

• I have about a bajillion visitor permits for the Finsbury Park B cpz parking area if they don't mind a brief stroll to/from the car (Lancaster Road/Oakfield Road etc). Free to a good cause, can give you enough for an overnight stay.
