Alphabet streets: the missing 'N'

It occasionally strikes me, in drunken moments wondering along SGR at night, that we have Lorne Road, Marquis Road, Osborne Road and Perth Road as consecutive side streets (if you ignore UTP) and in alphabetical order, and it makes me curious whether this is by accident, or by design.<br><br>If by any chance this is by design, it raises the question as to what happened to the letter 'N' - and whether there was ever a street between Marquis and Osbourne with a name beginning with the letter 'N'.  It seems unlikely, looking at the houses, but I don't know the history of the area well enough.  Anyone?<br><br>roy<br><br>

complete fluke - no mystery to be solved.  marquis of lorne was the reason why m and l got their names - one of prince albert's titles. osborne is queen vic's house on the isle of wight, albert was her husband, victoria was her name, and i think florence was a daughter. i think nicolas close was a new road due to bomb damage or slum clearances post ww2. woodstock and ennis have irish connections, but i haven't worked them out yet. utp and stapleton refer to local geography<div><br></div><div>all the ones over by the park are disraeli influced, endymion etc . corbyn was named after the mp and marriot after the hotel chain</div><div><br></div><div>don't get me started on the haringey ladder</div>

<p>The Haringey ladder roads are all named after admirals, and tucked in there somewhere is Admirals Close.</p><p>The Faltering Fullback was previously named The Walter Scoot and surrounding roads after his works. Perth Ennis etc. (actually, not sure if there are any etcs...)</p><p>Who'd of thunk it?</p>

<p>Dolphin Square in Pimlico is the same all the houses are named after Admirals, I lived in Hawkins House and every morning on the way to work I would hum half the music from A Muppet's Treasure Island, it took me weeks to work out why.</p><p>When I lived on the outskirts of Leeds they built a huge housing estate every street was named after Artists it was a maze of Turner Drive, Turner Close etc. </p><p>You can tell by the name of the street what period it was built, you just know when a Victoria Street was built without even looking at the houses. I wonder how many (if any are built) new Coronation Roads will be named if Charles ever ascends to the throne.</p><p>When Sir Titus Salt built Saltaire in Bradford he had the streets named after members of his family, members of the Royal Family and flowers popular at the time.</p><p>Be thankful we don't have to live with Bojo Rd or Simon Cowell Place.</p>

The roads the other side of the Parkland Walk - Lancaster, Connaught, Cornwall, Beatrice, are all named after royal relations or titles too.<br><br>Thanks for the admiral connection, very interesting.

Marriott road after developer Charles Marriott who built surrounding streets (not the hotel chain). Leeds Place named after murderer who lived in Tollington Park and skulked in that alley (puts me off going to the Refugee Therpy Centre which is a great place for chilling out and getting your feet done). Marquis of Lorne wasn't alberts title - it was the title of someone who married victoria and alberts daughter. I can't figure Florence out, it must be Florence nightingale as i have always suspected, she was a friend of victoria's.
