World Book Night 23rd April

edited April 2012 in Local discussion
Hi all,<div><br></div><div>I'm a book giver for World Book Night - giving away free books (there is no catch!) to get people reading. Please see <a href="http://www.worldbooknight.org/" style="font-size: 10pt; ">http://www.worldbooknight.org/</a> for more information.</div><div><br></div><div>I was wondering if there are any other Stroud Green book givers that might want to team up with me. Also if any has any good ideas of where to give away the books? I was thinking of going to the pub, but any ideas welcome</div><div><br></div><div>Thank you</div>

  • If you'd like to come and give at Waterstones in Islington you'd be most welcome.One of the local mums is giving Pride and Prejudice. Any other givers are most welcome, the more the merrier, we will provide a glass or two of wine and lots of eager readers!
  • As an initiative to attract new readers, then giving away a free book and a glass of wine to folks who get through the door at Waterstones in Islington strikes me as like ... err ... well, to put it politely ... coals to Newcastle. Meanwhile what of our own local independant bookstore on SGR? Cynique? Moi? [Doubles all round at Watertones HQ! Ed.]
  • Thank you,<div><br></div><div>gardener-joe, that's a good idea I'll ask them if they are opening late for it</div><div><br></div><div>miss annie - that sounds great as well. I work in Islington so sounds ideal - I can advertise at work if you like to get some non or light readers along?</div><div><br></div><div>Thank you :-)</div>

    <p>@gardener-joe<;/p><p>The offer of wine was to the givers really, just to say thanks for coming - we really don't need to bribe people to visit us. World Book Night isn't designed by Waterstones, nor is it an initiative to get more people through our doors, I just thought it would be nice to offer as we are a bookshop and anything that encourages people to read is fantastic - that's why I volunteer for VRH. If you are feeling generous sign up. <a href="http://www.vrh.org.uk/">http://www.vrh.org.uk/</a> </p>;
  • <p>@Annbag<;/p><p>We are quite active on twitter and facebook and we are telling all of our customers about World Book Night (also Shakespeare's birthday and St George's Day the same day), if you'd like to promote it too that would be great wherever you decide to do your giving. We will be open until 8pm, let me know what you decide, it would be lovely to meet you. </p><p>Which book are you giving?</p>
