Hi<br><br>I am seeking a good, but not too expensive japanese restaurant in the local area, or possibly the angel/upper street area. I have been to dotori on stroud green and people love it, but its not the best and ould prefer something a bit better than that.<br><br>If anyone can help, please let me know, thanks<br>

  • Bento cafe in Camden is great value, was always a regular but haven't been for a while http://www.bentocafe.co.uk Jinkichi on Heath St in Hampstead has super fresh fish but pricey http://www.jinkichi.com/jinkichi/ More local in Crouch End is a simple sushi place Nakamare on Topsfield Parade http://nakamarestaurant.co.uk/ And Hana on Seven Sisters Rd have also been to http://www.hanasushi.net/ Still think my preference would be Bento or Jinkichi. . .

  • I'm a big fan of Hana, but if you're looking for somewhere more upmarket than Dotori, it might not be what you're after.
  • I agree. I have been to several in central London which are much more upmarket but you definitely pay for it! Jinkichi is very small and close but always really busy. good asahimi selection but smaller maki menu.
  • Sorry, meant a good sashimi selection!
  • Another vote for Hana, though we always have it delivered. <br>
  • Jin Kichi is very nice indeed - more of a yakitori joint really, but good all round.  Booking essential.  There's another sushi place further down the hill, where Ed's Easy Diner used to be.  While it always appeared a bit dowdy in the past, I walked by last week and noticed that it had smartened up.  Might be worth a look.<div><br></div><div>A jaunt on the W3 will take you to the Japanese food shop at the bottom of the Priory Road parade.  Sushi while you wait, plus a pretty good selection of ingredients.  Also a new restaurant in Muswell Hill (at least I think it's new) called Midori, which is down the Colney Hatch Lane bit of the Broadway.</div><div><br></div><div>Slightly further afield is Sushi Tetsu in Clerkenwell (<a href="http://sushitetsu.co.uk/">http://sushitetsu.co.uk/</a>;), only just opened but already attracting some foodie buzz.  </div><div><br></div><div>Unfortunately, cheap sushi is often a false economy...</div>
  • @quince - what about cheap sushi from the japanese supermarket in piccadilly? that always seems cheap and in my unexpert view, pretty decent.
  • Not sure I know which place you mean.  <div><br></div><div>While it's no great shakes, I'm quite fond of Kulu Kulu in Brewer St.  <div><br></div><div>But since two of the worst bouts of food poisoning I've ever had have been triggered by meals in Japanese restaurants, my viewpoint might be little jaundiced.</div></div>
  • I like Hana. Also WOW sushi in Crouch End. Haven't been for ages, but I remember it being pretty good.
  • Hi, if Crouch End isn't too far for you then I definitely recommend Nakama. Lovely (if a little slow) staff and great food  <a href="http://nakamarestaurant.co.uk/">http://nakamarestaurant.co.uk/</a> ;
