Local garages ... recommendations?

edited January 2007 in Local discussion
Guys - I need to take my car in for a service and would rather use a good local company rather than some over-priced dealership garage ... can anyone recommend a VW/Audi specialist garage in the area?

I've used MEB motor centre in Tottenham Lane. Not VW specialists, but good local chaps.
Nice guys too and do MOTs

The VW specialists around here are aircool, but they are really expensive.

I used MEB for my last car, but fancy something different for this one. No real reason other than I paid a lot for my last MOT work.

Anybody used Sparsholt? The one in the previously mentioned 28 weeks later promo shot.

I've used Kelvin Motor wagons on Brownswood Road for the last 5 years and wouldn't have any complaints. VW/Audi specialist.

I used Sparsholt for my MOT last year with no issues. However one of the guys in the repairs garage next to the old dairy (Hornsey Automatic Transmittions) recommended the garage on Mount Pleasant Villas or Victoria Road......Jewels for a service rather than use Sparsholt........I got the impression there was no love lost between Sparsholt and Hornsey Automatic Transmittions.

I know the tyre guy opposite the Larrick, next door to Hornsey Automatic Transmissions. Really good guy.

Where is the garage on Mount Pleasant Villas or Victoria Road?

Well I think I've seen it on Mount Pleasant villas (on the left behind the houses) but for some reason www.yell.com lists it on Victoria Road.......

I might have to go for a walk later on. Still no idea where you mean.

    Ah! Found it.

Bizarrely Victoria Road crosses Stapleton Hall Road and goes as far as the crossroads at the bridge over the railway. The bridge and onwards is Mount Pleasant Villas.

Still, garage didn't seem to be open. Could it be part of the rest of the yard - Purkelly Bros?

oh I really don't know....hmmm....maybe ask the Hornsey Automatic Repair people....they seem to be the oracles!!

I'm looking to get an MOT done soon, and I did go in there. He said "oh, we're not authorised. but if you go to Sparsholt and it fails we'll do the work cheaper than they will".

I'm going to get "HAR" to fix my car as well. My friend worked in an office next door and said they were good. Sparsholt strictly MOT only.......

Finally got round to speaking to the guy from Jewel's garage. Very friendly. Going to attempt the job myself but would otherwise have used them. "HAR" only do work on automatic gearboxes according to a guy I spoke to there.

John's garage is in the Purkelly complex.
He is a reliable and honest person who has taken good care of our cars over the years.

Yep, John's garage goes by the name of "Jewel's" in the Purkelly complex.

I got my car fixed at jewels last week really good service and VERY cheap. He left it outside my house when he was done so I didn't have to leave work early.

Now THAT'S what I call service.

My MOT ran out the other day ... and I didn't realise! Fortunately, even though they were solid with work, Kelvin Motor wagons on Brownswood Road (recommended by Ian at the top of the thread) saw me with less than a day's notice and didn't charge me a bomb either. Very friendly and helpful people.

    If only I had a VW/Audi.

Kelvin Motor Wagons have always been OK by me.

Am I missing something about them or does everybody here have a VW?

Anyway, I had to get my car MOT'd and have some new brake discs and pads put on the front. A&M Tyres (new garage at yellow car wash end of Woodstock Road) to the rescure! They did the brake work, after letting me know there's a German/Swedish/French car parts supplier on Wightman Road which had stuff that would fit my Twingo. He also took it for MOT at Sunnyside Road service centre. I also get my scooters worked at A&M, both branches of which (the other is by The Larrik) are in the Directory.
