Mouse identification

I am sharing the patio and garden with a mouse. If it's a field mouse, should I leave it alone and congratulate myself on having achieved a wildlife garden? Or is it a house mouse? Should I consult the cat?

After the impressively expert response to the swift v house martin debate, I'm sure you will get guidance on identification ... But town mouse or country mouse, you never get only one. They bring their friends and have babies. Talk to the cat.

Mice are vile, they pee as they walk. Dirty, horrible, disease ridden things. Cat will agree.

Mice hate the smell of peppermint, so if you grow some in your house or use essential oils, it'll keep them away. <br>

You could hire out your cat! Like Dick Whittington. That's an impressive tally.<div><br></div><div>Mice are quite endearing in their way, of course, just not as co-residents ... I never want to find they have been rampaging about my food cupboards again, but live and let live as far as the (very wild) garden is concerned. (Not that the cats agree.)</div>

Second the recommendation for peppermint oil, though sawing one in half with a knife also seems to work as a deterrent.
