I had a look in too.
The proprieter is very nice, as is the shop. Feels like it's been there ages, warm and friendly feel to it. Agreed on the pricing.
Lovely shop! Shoring up hipster corner, there. The owner said we're also getting two new delis - one in the old hardware shop, and the other somewhere down near Hummingbird.
I think HH is a great addition to SGR. We need more shops like this, not necessarily more shops selling the same sort of goods as HH, but rather more independent retailers who obviously care about what they are doing and how they present their shops and who sell good quality items. My local friends and I have wanted a good quality deli for ages, it would be great if there was a good quality butchers, fishmongers and florists too.
Hang about, isn't there already a fishmonger? I didn't like fish even before going veggie, but I have friends who travel from Turnpike Lane to shop there, so presumed it was pretty high quality.
After the recent power cut, HH has opened today for the afternoon for some last-minute shopping, in case anyone tried to go earlier and found it closed. She's also offering discounts because it's Christmas Eve.
She's selling cards made by local artists - I popped in to buy some made by a friend (the cat in the stocking).
The barbers next door to hettie is still in darkness but cutting hair just the same - even using cold tea to rinse the customers . Still full marks for heroically carrying on.
The traffic lights at Nandos are STILL out which looks dangerous with the sherry flowing round those parts.
