• Ok mate, one local mystery is the recurring bad smell which arises in Lorne Road . Loads of experts fail to get to the root of the problem. Putrid gas was suspected but a former local Cllr in a neighbouring street proved otherwise. Not all on here are concerned about it (main controversy is close to the station), but if you live there it is a shocker . My landlady Joyce and live in lover are fed up with it and in the summer walk around with cotton buds in blu tac up their nose. Not nice! This could do with exposing. Good luck. Chang
  • Chang is always going on about this and most people think he is having us on but I was walking down Lorne Road during the summer and did see a large drain clearing truck cleaning the drains at the back of the 50s flat on the estate opposite no 20 but I have never smelt anything unpleasent in the street so I think Chang is having us on so don't waste too much time on this.
  • Tom - thanks for posting on here. I have been living in the area for 8 years. The demographics of Stroud Green has completely changed. Its unrecognisable from when I moved in. Restaurants, organic veg shops, coffee shops, theatre have all arrived in the last few years. The fullback pub has developed from a small local pub to a multistorey trendy hangout representing the type of people who have moved in. Would you be interetsted in plotting the local history of Stroud Green?

  • ChangN4N6 - thanks for this. Unfortunately Lorne Road is just outside my patch, so I won't be able to cover this story (although I have passed it on to another reporter to look into!)

Stutent - that's good background info, thank you.

  • Intriguing we are teaming with cub reporters! Like Clark Kent. I hope something exciting (and not smelly) happens)! The big road block scandal of Thorpdale Rd etc might be with prodding (stuff on here about Council high handed ness about 'rat runs') Chang

  • Thanks for these. I am reporting for islingtonnow.co.uk - which is basically an in-house newspaper and website run by postgraduate journalism students at City University.

  • Hello @tp277 I would like the Case of the Missing Totem Poles investigated please. The council have 'lost' some well loved pieces of public art. Might make a good local interest story, you can pick out some info in this thread http://www.stroudgreen.org/discussion/4746/consultation-re:-free-school-on-old-ashmount-site#Item_11
  • Why does Haringey have very high council tax but appalling services?

How can Islington afford to employ more parking wardens/spy car people than teachers/doctors/bin men (delete as appropriate)?

  • VENEZIA,LAPORCHETA,FIREZZA,LUPA,PAPGONE, WHICH ONE PROVIDE A GOOD PIZZA IN THE AREA?
  •
That is now an easy question to answer... NKOTB, Fabrizio's on Crouch Hill (opposite The Noble) do wonderful pizzas. Personally, my favourite of all the places you listed. No delivery service, eat-in and take-away only.

  • The Free school plans should be interesting to report on.
  • who is the shadowy cabal behind stroudgreen.org? even wikileaks couldn't expose them
  • And of course, there's @changn4n6';s burning question: WHEN WILL CHAPTER ONE BE RESTORED TO ITS FORMER GLORY? It's an important question, y'know...
  • Joining in on the pizza conversation,
If I had to pick one it would have to be Papaggone's. It took me ages to finally go to this restaurant (being originally put off by the decor - the noise - the crowd ...etc) But their pizzas are definitely the best. (well their food in general. Have you ever had the gnocchi with veal? ... yumm!).

A cab driver once told me the owners of Papaggone and la Porchetta were once colleagues but fell out and one decided to open a rival restaurant... Anyone actually knows about this? I'd love to know if it's true.

  • La Porch is part of a chain, so probably not true.

@harpistic is right that this area sorely needs the return of Chapter One - a lively (ok rowdy) bar with friendly (ok drunk) locals who enjoy the entertainment (ok women cat fighting and men shouting) in modern (ok cheap) surroundings with amazing staff (rocky etc) ready to make a night you could never forget (even if you wanted to). Oasis was cursed and so will any other place be on that site. Except ...Chapter one. Bring back....Chapter one. Misscara's social life depends on it.
  • Being a chain doesn't make that story impossible, does it? It's a small chain, so could well have an individual owner. And Finsbury Park's Porchetta was where the chain began, wasn't it? Plus, there's already the rogue branch in Muswell Hill demonstrating a somewhat fractious (but interestingly non-litigious) working environment.
  •
Islington and their total lack of investment and sensible/sensitive planning on stroud green road. Islington doesn't stop at Highbury Corner!!!!

  •
Marie

I think it is true thought I don't think it was Marco. There were several attempts to get a Pizza place going om the Pag. site. I rember being in there on one of the first nights that they had now winea dn went and got if for you from Tescos !

  • Are you saying if you ordered wine they bought it from Tescos? That happens alot in Vietnam (thought not Tescos).
