Apple trees

There are apple trees in a front garden and fruit is just dropping. . No one home. Is it legal to go in and get them incl ones on the tree. Someone lower down has put basket of apples on the wall which is nice. But I only took one. Chang

It's scrumping, I use to do that for conkers when I was a kid, but be on guard the woman whose garden the tree was in threw boots at us.
