Watched a load of the old BBC adaptations yesterday, I do hope Gatiss' 'Tractate Middoth' is on the same level, rather than kin to that dreadful 'O Whistle And I'll Come To You, My Lad' from a year or two back which didn't even have the whistle..

I didn't hate that 'Oh Whistle', just wish they hadn't billed it as MR James. The Radio 4 sexed up dramatic readings of his stories from a couple of years ago were far worse. They're written to be read aloud, don't bloody tinker with them.

Well, you say don't tinker, but the Christopher Lee readings took a few little liberties and those were excellent.<div><br></div><div>The complete undecipherability of Voynich reminds me more of the parchment from 'Number 13'. </div>

I'm not sure if the Lee readings were extras on the same DVD set as the full dramatisations, or a DVD in their own right, but they're certainly available. As are Robert Powell reading them, but while he was fine, he's no Christopher Lee.
