The SGR xmas tree wars have broken out again. Who is best/cheapest/freshest?<div><br></div><div>the nice greek (or is he turkish?) bloke is very knowledgeable, the other lot, less so. He told my my in law Tom that the queen has those blue- coloured pines at (I suppose) Sandringham - so he bought one. they do look nice but are pricey.</div><div><br></div><div>chnang</div>

I did not look at the price of trees as am just wanting a small natural display ( twiggs, holly, pine cones type thing ). So was very disappointed at the general lack of variety in favour of cheap tinsel tat, even the florist had nothing like it ! Am going to have to go scavenging on the parkland walk.

If you are an early riser you can nip over to the flower market at Nine Elms. There is everything you could ever possibly need or want in the way of festive foliage and sundries there, much cheaper than any florist.

Or Colombia Road, even - I took my street photography group there on Wednesday evening (the shops are open late on Wednesdays), and there are some serious bargains. Overground to Hoxton is probably the quickest way.

Columbia Rd is lovely. I sold my wares in a pop up shop there a few weeks ago. If you go half an hour before they pack up on a Sunday, you'll get amazing bargains. Nine Elms is a different kettle of fish, it's the trade market for florists - like the Smithfield of foliage if you like. It's massive, bargainous and you'll find stuff you've had in your mind but never been able to find before. Closes up by 10am though, and not open Sundays.

Yes very good suggestion's thanks. Have never been to Nine Elms, but love Columbia Rd. Have not been in a while as don't travel well so try to keep it as local as poss. Feel a trip there coming on soon

For Nine Elms, tube to Vauxhall and follow the signs for New Covent Garden market. I'd recommend it most highly, been going for years and never been disappointed.

Meanwhile in N4 25 quid for quite small fir tree. Got loads of decs at the fantastic new emporium nr dairy. Jumping as usual with very sexy types in there. Then at home The Landlady Joyce let her fat cat in who jumped on the lights and got an electric shock. He now looks quite festive . Tree less so. Chang

Cats will do anything to get attention. Ours now won't go into the Xmas tree room after the electrical adventure with fairy lights . I almost xpect him to light up after the bolt he received but he just looks sulky but still quite fat. Tinsel would be a step too far. Chang

Not sure but you do run into Christmas Tree grave yards on street corners. It faintly fills me with sadness.

They take them with the regular recycling - but I seem to remember that it's before 12th night which is when mine comes down - it will probably say on the council website somewhere. There's also a chipping place in the park at the bottom of Hornsey Rise.
