Hola neighbours, do any of you good people have recommendations for a local NYE night out? Was thinking something a bit swankier than "beers in The Worlds End", but less swanky than 12 course degustation menu...<div><br></div><div>Any ideas welcome!</div>

NYE is generally an over rated expensive event. I have usually spent it in a pub in SGR. Diary/Stapleton are good with late licencing and a quick walk home. You have to pay to get in to those places, but much cheaper than other places in town.

I quite agree with Sutent. Totally overrated. I normally stay in and write or, if a friend is on his/her own, then cook something together, drink bubbly and wine and enjoy a good chat/laugh. <br><br>So, I'm afraid I can't give advice on what to do, hope you find something nice and enjoy the evening. <br>

You know 9 times out of 10 I'd agree with you. But this year we actually have a babysitter (i.e. mo' in law), so planning on making the most of it!!

In my experience Highgate is much the same as SGR on NYE except with more teenagers.

Is the Wrestlers nice again now? It went off the boil a few years ago, used to go often when I worked in Hampstead.

My favourite NYE in London is to slowly hack across town via a few pubs, see the fireworks across the city from Primrose Hill (with hipflask) and then work your way back. The Southampton Arms in KT is a good stop on that journey.

Misscara obviously has selected tastes for pubs. I wouldn't let that put you off SGR for NYE. I have been out many times and have had a fantastic time every time. <div><br></div><div>Misscara how does a person attire put you off a pub? People wear lots of different and varied outfits which is surely a positive thing. Chang prefers jumpers over shoulders. Sahrees, turban, burkas, plus-fours all welcome</div>

I don't mind plus-fours but they shouldn't be sported in Town. They are perfectly acceptable when worn in the country or on the golf course.

I have quite a long list of criteria that have to be fulfilled in order for a venue to fall into the 'good pub' category.  I confess that I had never considered the facial hair or trouser-style of punters to be a factor.

I've been going to the Landseer pub on NYE for last couple of years. No entry charge and always funny mixture of people as the guy who runs the pub invites all his mates so it looks like something out of the film Dusk til Dawn; leather and tattoos. Has a DJ usual playing Northern Soul 7's. Great fun! <div><br></div><div>Re: Wrestlers pub in Highgate: it's lovely in there, good food, selection of beers, outdoor back area and a lovely fire for the winter. </div>

I'm off to the Old Dairy for the Masquerade Ball. Limited number of tickets so hoping it's not too crowded! It did sound fun though. I hope I haven't made a terrible mistake!!<br>

@miscarra if you correlated " trying too hard to speak to loud and being too annoying types" vs conventional or non conventional clothes or moustache and no moustache. I am pretty sure you are more likely to be a trying to hard to speak loud and being annoying type if you wear long trousers and don't have a moustache. It is not helpful when personal anecdotes lead to generalisations. I am sorry that your special places have been spoilt, but I think you may find its peoples attitudes which may be the biggest issue.

I base all my generalisations on personal anecdotes. If it actually was an Oscar Wilde convention I'd be quite keen.
