  • Hillrise Ward is definitely a Labour target, but then its a Lib Dem one also...<div><br></div><div>last election we had one Labour and two Lib Dem. A person who observed the count said that ths result occurred because of a lot of ticket splitting - people not voting the straight ticket, using all three of their votes, yes, but not voting for three candidates from the same party.</div><div><br></div><div>One of the Liberal Democrats, Greg Foxsmith, resigned from the Liberal Democrats over a national issue</div><div><br></div><div><a href="http://www.islingtontribune.com/news/2013/apr/greg-foxsmith-quits-lib-dem-party-over-‘secret-courts’">Islington Tribune report about it here</a></div><div><br></div><div>So having ceased to be a member of the party he sat as an independent councillor. And he is not running this time.</div><div><br></div><div>So there is one sitting Labour Councillor, running for re election and one sitting Liberal Democrat running for re lection.</div><div><br></div><div>In Hillrise there are therefore nine candidates, three Labour, three Lib dem, three Greens. Its not a target ward for the Greens. That there are no conservative candidates may marginally assist the Lib Dems as there have been in the past a couple of hundred Tory votes, and those people, if they vote, are unlikely to vote for anyone other than the Lib Dems.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>But like everywhere its the non voters that really matter, and while the task for the Lib Dems is to persuade those of their supporters who are disillusioned to "keep the faith" for Labour the task is to get them to out to vote...</div><div><br></div><div>The Greens cannot win, but they cannot loose either. My memory goes back to five elections ago, when the Liberal Democrat candidates in Hillrise were paper candidates with no prospect of winning. (I was a nominator for one, a friend, at the last minute before nominations closed). Within six years they controlled the Council, albeit only by one vote........</div><div><br></div>
