Bits of Latin America and even US states are gradually seeing sense, which makes me a lot more optimistic than I used to be. And Hell, who would have thought even 10 years ago that the Tories would bring in gay marriage? Socially, as against economically, progress does seem to continue.
More enlightened treatment of offenders - ie, outside the criminal justice system - would arguably be the most appropriate form of progress. After all, the only (currently illegal) drug likely to be decriminalised/legalised is cannabis, and that's unlikely to be to blame in this case.
They have even made Khat illegal despite the scientific evidence. All those poor farmers in Kenya who will loose their jobs. Lots of people in Seven Sisters Road chew Khat
