It was fine once I'd had them remake it, but they've never contained mustard when I've eaten them in France. And undeclared allergens annoy me. Was also unimpressed by staff rowing in the kitchen...
A classic croque monsieur is just ham and cheese, surely? French wikipedia agrees with me, and only mentions the addition of béchamel as one of many possibly additions for fancier versions. That also solves the mustard question.

To get back to the original topic of this thread, the new (or at least it wasn't on the menu last time I went) chicken sandwich at Max's is a thing of beauty.

It's called Robocoq. Chicken confit, chicken liver parfait, chicory, possibly chicken gravy mayo? Maybe string fries as well? There was a crunchy aspect to it, but I can't remember for sure. Anyway, it was sublime. We also tried the chicken skin crisps, which were delicous, if spectacularly unhealthy.
I have to admit, and it pains me to say this as I am a regular customer, that I had possibly the nastiest lunch ever at Front Room yesterday. Chicken almost burned to a cinder and overcooked spaghetti over-drenched with fluorescent orange sauce. I didn't complain as I was in a big rush. Pity as sometimes their lunches are most toothsome. Verdict, sadly: inconsistent. Could do better.
