Alexandra Palace plans.

<font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: normal;">I think the plans are too ambitious.  I agree with the latter speaker.  London needs a few follies like Battersea Power station...Historical relics.  Part of it is used as an ice rink and concert venue and even some of the remainder could be used too, but what's wrong with a bit of dereliction.  London is becoming too homogeneous and streamlined.  </span></font><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;">http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31476935</span></font><br></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><br></div></div>

  • @Kreuzkav: Did you visit the public consultation? it was on for a month up at the palace and showcased a lot of information and CGIs of the proposed redevelopment; brief articles and news reals don't really get the whole concept across. I found the narrative behind the ideas fascinating, there's soo much more history there than just the BBC! I can't wait to visit after the redevelopment is completed.<div><br><div>I agree with your comment on London retaining it's historic fabric, but due to the state of modern society dereliction leads to Health & Safety problems which either leads to lawsuits or the closure of historic spaces! Without the use of innovative and skilled creative re-use London would crumble and before long the only option would be to demolish the buildings we decided not to save!  </div></div><div><br></div><div>I also happened across the proposals of the team fighting the planning permission, they wanted to cover the main elevation in huge 6 foot tall text indicating where the BBC et al were based. now that really would be an eye-sore!</div><div><br></div><div>Ally Pally is falling apart and without a quality business plan, dedicated restoration team and local residents that get behind the scheme we risk losing the palace to greedy residential developers who have Boris under their thumb and will be able to get away with murder!</div>
  • Incidentally, the Starting Gate pub next to Ally Pally station is currently undergoing an extensive refit. During the refurb they have encovered several really old pictures of the Palace, and they are apparently going to keep them.<div><br></div><div><img src="http://static.ow.ly/photos/normal/8UY95.jpg"><br><div><br></div><div><br></div></div>
  • Thanks CarlitoYeah for your feedback.  Sadly I didn't know about the public consultation. I just hope the refurb isn't too 'experience tacky but you made a good point about the need for it to be preserved.  These buildings are falling apart.
