The George Robey

edited June 2015 in Local discussion
Was being slowly demolished yesterday, looks like they are having to keep ground floor fascia. If you don't know about The Robey's part in the music history of London a quick Google search will provide you with lots of info, it was quite the place to be in its heyday.

I was in there with Johnny Rotten's best friend, about 30-40 years ago,  when JR was at the height of his fame.  Surprised - an old fogey like me? So was I. The place was packed, and not my scene at all. JR was inches away, and looking rather worried, as a fracas was about to develop. I can't remember what happened next.
  • @ Checkski.  It doesn't surprise me at all.  You come across as a very interesting person who has lived their life to their best. I went to the place from the 90 to the mid 90s.  Lots of atmosphere but also a bit dodgy. Saw some great small band gigs there.
  • Thanks, Kreuzkav. Nice of you to say so. Se fosse vero!
