"what we did in our spare time 1950-99..." Quite a lot of that period is living memory for many of us, not exotic bits of past! Does it need "exploring"? I always hoped for more exciting things from a time machine; the 70s doesn't really do it.<div><br></div><div>My daughter when small used to ask if there was electricity when I was little - but I don't quite expect bbc2 to look at the recent past in the same way.</div>

It's a shame they won't show all the positive things that happened in that time. The NHS was born, public health policies such as vaccinations, slums eradicated and social housing built and workers rights and unions. The post war British collective spirit was something special, it's a shame things are very different now

The ending of WW2 led to a feeling that a collective social solidarity should be fostered and as Sutent has mentioned the above happened.  This generally was the feeling until the 70s.  Those on either side will argue why this changed. Perhaps some of the left wing unions got a bit too bolshie.  But I think by the late 70s more and more people didn't remember the war as adults and so got selfish again.

Do you need someone London based? I have friends in Norfolk who might be up for this. Back in time for dinner was the best thing I've seen on TV for ages.
