There used to be a regular "summer" story in the local papers that Bob was looking a house in Crouch End. It was always put about by Paul Simon !

Dave and Annie used to live in a squat in Stapleton Hall Road and frequent the vegi Indian on SGR. A long time ago there used to be picture Annie on which she has written about the resturant being the gem of the area. That must have been in the early 90s. The Eurypmics used to run their empire from a flat on the ooposite side of the road from the Church. It was above what is now the Weatherspoons. In those days the site was a FineFair supermarket full of own brand packed in bright yellow and black.

The Glamour Cave blog have mangled the facts and missed the entire Dylan / Crouch end anecdote!

This dates from 1987-'89 ish when Eurythmics were in their pomp and Dave Stewart had branched out as producer of albums for Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger and others at The Church studio on Crouch Hill, they also had offices opposite the NatWest bank and above what was then a second hand shop.

The infamous incident was this:

Dave had invited Bob to his place on a day off from recording - Dave lived in Maida Vale by then. So Bob set off with the address, I don't recall actual street but let's say it was 13 Lennox Rd.

and when he arrived at number 13 a slightly harassed woman answered the door, "Dave's not in 'cos he's at work but you best come in and I'll call him" she offered. Dylan was shown in to the kitchen given a cup of tea and introduced to the baby, the dog and screaming toddler - out in the hallway he could overhear their Mum on the phone to Dave "WTF is Bob Dylan doing here? You never told me you knew him, he's waiting for you in our kitchen, you better get back here and sort this out!!" Whereupon about 30 mins later Dave returned ; that is Dave the gas plumber, who had played a bit of guitar and jammed with pub bands, but not Dave the pop god-producer - he lived about 4 streets away at 13 Lennox Drive!!

Dylan was very fond of the Indian food in CE by the way - there was a row of 4 or 5 down the past

The Queens and the Shamrat of India was his favourite by all accounts - ironic the brass plaque is

in Banners but Andy Kershaw was responsible for that as he was part of the place.

N.B. There used to be a signed photo of a young Annie in vegi Indian saying it was the gem if Finsbury Park. It was I think the only restaurant on SGR in those days.
Saw Owen Jones getting off the Victoria Line at Finsbury Park a couple of nights ago looking grumpy but think it was because the Victoria line was a bit crap that night!
