Children's charity, Chance UK, is looking for volunteer mentors

Are you looking for an opportunity to give back to your community? Or perhaps you'd like to take on a new challenge outside of work?

Chance UK is an award-winning children’s charity that supports 5-11 year olds with emotional and behavioural difficulties. We encourage children to develop their strengths, self-esteem and life aspirations through a year-long mentoring programme. We are looking for individuals who live or work locally to become volunteer mentors for children in Islington.

Each child referred to Chance UK is carefully matched with a trained and supervised adult volunteer mentor. Mentors commit to the programme for one whole year and spend 2-4 hours once a week with their child, engaging them in fun sessions that build self-confidence and pro-social skills. We encourage our mentors to get really creative planning their sessions; in the past, kids have loved going sightseeing, taking trips to a café for arts and crafts sessions or going to the park for a game of football. Over the course of the year, the mentor helps their matched child realise the personal qualities they already possess, as well as encouraging them to develop new ones. With support from their mentor, the child graduates from the mentoring programme with the confidence to overcome challenges and make positive choices.

Chance UK provides volunteers with comprehensive training and tailored support throughout the mentoring process. No previous experience working with children is necessary – we look for people who are dedicated, resilient and have a great sense of humour! If that sounds like you, please get in touch!

More information about our mentoring can be found at www.chanceuk.com/become-a-mentor and enquiries can be directed to Sophie at volunteer@chanceuk.com.
