I've come back from holiday to find three trees have been beheaded on our road with another tree marked for 'work'. Yes, they were healthy and mature trees.
It seems particularly mad to do this at this time of year when there are still active nests and the last of the fledgling birds about.
Does anyone know who at Islington Council is responsible for trees? I live on Islington side.

Pollarding is important for the tree.
You wouldn't do pollarding at this time of year either, almost all tree types are best pollarded in winter - my grandad was an expert gardener & allotment keeper, and a keen late winter pollarder.
