JOIN US FOR AN EVENING OF CELEBRATION, ORGAN MUSIC AND SONG

Organ recital – 7.30pm Sunday 13 December 2020
We are delighted that James Orford, Organist-in-residence at Westminster Cathedral, and tenor Ruairi Bowen will perform a programme of music with a Christmas flavour (lasting about one hour).
The magnificent Hunter organ was commissioned as the First World War memorial for the Congregationalist community who built the church. The service of dedication was held on 12 December 1920 and it must have been a very emotional occasion. Two wooden tablets inside the church list the 46 men from the congregation who were killed in that war, and 175 who returned home.
The church would also have been packed for the inaugural concert a few days later, but for this centenary recital we can’t have an audience at all because of Covid restrictions.
Our concert will be live-streamed at www.stmellitusorgan.co.uk/concert
This a free concert, but if you would like to make a donation, however small, we are still fundraising for educational and community projects, including a music scholarship with local school children.
