the Italian deli

edited March 2008 in Local discussion
What was going on at the Italian deli place on SGR this evening? It appeared to be total shambles inside with stuff all over the place, and then just as I walked by an unmarked car with a blue siren screeched to a halt in front of it.

    Obviously the mob.

They'd got some of these in and it caused a riot.

Asked the shop next door but one. They said it had been bought out by a Turkish guy. Guess it will change then.

Apologies, Colette, do you mean A Taste of Italy, the one between the dead dog florist and the maroon estate agents?

@ Andy. Never mock the power of the red pen.

@ Tosscat. Yep, that's the one. I walked past this morning and it still looked like a shambles. But why are you apologising (don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of an unnecessary apology)? I'm not at all sure that what SGR needs is another Turkish shop.

Something appears to be happening in the old 'Discount Store' between Cherry Bean and Chapter One. There's been a team in there shopfitting for the best part of a fortnight. Anybody any ideas as to what it's going to be?

What we really need is a Turkish one-pound shop that sells wigs.

I used to like the little grocer next to the dead dog florist cum taxi firm before it taken over. I was having a butcher's at dotcom foods today and it seems to have improved slightly.

    How about 'Pak' estate agents?

Impossible. Surely the Pak empire stops at Tollington park?

    Woodies wigs? Even sounds better.

To be fair the person in the shop only said it was bought by a Turkish man. She then said "so that isn't going to work" - presumably meaning a Turk owning an Italian deli. People here have jumped to the assumption that he would therefore make it into a Turkish shop.

He could be Turkish but really into heavy metal and desperate to open a shop stocking only records by the Monsters of Rock. Thing is, I know that if this happens I will undoubtedly, through sheer convenience, end up stocking on early Maiden just because I can do it on my way to buy a paper of a Saturday.

Not forgetting that if it were a success we may never see Topic Records open its doors again!

I'm rather alarmed by the way Pak have diversified into the kebab market. It's got more than an air of Sweeney Todd about it don't you think?

I've said it before, but I think the Pak empire operates like an [old episode of Dallas](http://www.stroudgreen.org/comments.php?DiscussionID=405)

"Colette: Impossible. Surely the Pak empire stops at Tollington park? "

Possibly, but the unofficial cease-fire was broken by Woody's opening up next to Finsbury Park overland station

I love that little Woody's News. I has no news in it, or at least never when I'm in there.
