I was told by a Tesco worker the other day that there is a plan to pull down the current bulding and build a new one with 80 flats above. That's tall! Does anyone where the planning application for this is, and can we still object?
I'm not as diligent as I used to be, but I haven't spotted one. Nothing comes up on the planning portal.
If I recall correctly it is a site identified by the Council for redevelopment. Nothing would please me more than seeing the existing building replaced, it's a blight on the streetscape, but 80 flats does sound like overkill. It oughtn't to be more than, say, four stories there. Maybe four to match the current highest part, with a fifth set-back.
@sustent - if they replaced it with something of that quality I'd be overjoyed. Modern touches but much more in-keeping with the surrounding Victorian buildings.
Grenners makes a good point - it's humungous and with rear-access too. So you probably could fit that number of flats in without going too high, though doubtless they'll try.
