OK. It's about cake.
I like lemon polenta cake.
What has Stroud Green come to that it is full of pretentious sods who like lemon polenta cake?
I like Rice Krispie Cake too.
Be rest assured Andy, I still like that chocolate in the middle of a Feast. No polenta cake here mister. Although Petra makes an array of killer chocolate cakes/tortes, it's the Austrian blood I tell you.
Mmmm. Malt Loaf. I used to love the stuff, probably still do but haven't tried it for years. I ate Tiffin the other day, hadn't had that for years and then a work colleague rocked up with some and a cuppa.
Though I am very happy with low rent cake, I mainly love Konditor and Cook cake (which the Front Room cafe sells - big plus in my book). If you haven't had their chocolate curly wirly cake, then seek out a branch immediately. Everything else they make is great too. Perhaps I should bring some to the SG residents sherry party?
Now, I know for a fact that we have an ex-K&C pastry chef in our midst, and that he's looking to launch a bit of an occasion cake-making venture if anyone's interested...
Mmm..Nintendo cake. Although, I don't know how I feel about eating somthing covered in black or grey frosting...probably causes cancer like everything else.
I'm making the chocolate rice krispie cakes today for my 6 year old...beats the shit out of pre-packaged marshmallow rice krispie treats that taste like flavored cardboard.
I had a Space Shuttle for my 8th, think it was launching for the first time that year. It was a simple affair, a flat slab of sponge cut into wings and a tail, laid on the tray with a top, top swiss roll type ditty going on as the craft through the middle. The result was covered in chocolate.

I was so Bo, back then.
On another note, I used to LOVE the space shuttle.
When I was at junior school (early/mid 80s), we went from four houses to three and there was a competition to name the new ones. The old houses had been called Greeks, Romans, Spartans and Trojans, which was really dull. My entry won, so from then on we had houses called Columbia, Challenger and Discovery.
Did one blow up by any chance and take all the kids with it? I'm starting to suspect any conversation that starts with cake can be taken to any other matter entirely quite effortlessly.
@ David - hooray for your mom - what a tremendous cake! And you don't look the least bit curmudgeonly! (sic)
Oooh - I feel a retro cake theme coming on, having seen those photos...bring on the French Fancies! Which reminds me, an acquaintance of mine was recently startled at the sight of someone eating a swiss roll like they would a chocolate bar or wrap. I thought this was the norm.
Popped down to Woolworths in Crouch End at 9am to find myself second in a queue of people waiting to buy Mario Kart. To even out the cake karma, I popped into Greeg's on my way back.
Actually, if I was second in the queue that means it was one person before me, which is technically not a queue is it? Hmm.
Fridays at my work seem to have become 'Greggs Fridays'. Everyone seems to rock in with a cheeky greggs item, and when I ask why they nearly always say, "well, its Friday."

I'm waiting for the photo of my cake.

Which was ace.
And that lead to the joke - what does NASA stand for?
