Doctors - which clinic is better?

edited April 2008 in Local discussion
Have just joined the 158 medical centre. Is it any good? Went to my registration appointment today and there was some guy with a dog shouting at the receptionists about how he wanted his prescription and where was it etc. The nurse didn't seem all that well informed about things either. Anyone else use this centre? Is it OK?

hi donnaw, we had this discussion recently and some of us have legged it to the vale practice, part of the clocktower practice on park road, crouch end. i used to be at the one on the corner but got sick of waiting so long for an appt and the general sarcastic nature of the doctor! see how you go but if you don't like it, see if the vale will take you, i can highly recommend them so far.

I've never had a problem with the place I must say.

    bah!

just called them and they won't take me - apparently since I fall into the camden and islington district :(

if you are camden and islington, then try the hanley road health centre. we have just been kicked out of that because we moved out of islington into haringey.

You should never tell them when you move. I'm still registered at the LSE practice, though I haven't been a student there for years. Actually, I didn't ever live in their catchment area, but they didn't realise that part of N4 is in Haringey, not Islington.

It's the best practice I've ever been with. You can always get an appointment on the same day. And they let my husband register there a couple years ago, even though he was never an LSE student. He made a sad face when they tried to turn him away, so they laughed and said that he was too cute to reject. How's that for objectivity!

Rainbow_carnage, I'm sure that's a good idea but only if you can still get your mail from whatever address the practice thinks you live at. Last time we moved I didn't tell the GP practice (not because I was clever but because I forgot), and next time I tried to make an appointment (couple of years later) they told me I'd been removed - they'd noticed I seemed not to be coming along very often, sent me a letter (to old address) to say unless I replied they'd strike me off, and of course I never saw it. Took a fair amount of bother to get re-registered (I think my face must not look very cute when sad).

Oh, the practice has our actual address. They just didn't realise that the address is in Haringey, not Islington. They only cover Camden and Islington. When I came in to register, they asked for my postcode. On their chart, N4 came up as Islington. I didn't correct them.
