There were lots of ants flying about SG today. They make me puke. Why are they here?

I quite like ants. And bees. It's about the time of year for flying ants - the 'nuptial flight' only last a few days. *Flying ants are the reproductive males and females. These mating ants are winged and have a nuptial swarming flight during a few days in July or August. Mating takes place in the air and females then seeks out a nest site where she stays for the winter. The following spring (April) she lays her eggs, the larvae hatch in 3-4 weeks and are fed by the queen until they pupate. That makes me feel even worse. I can't think of anything nice to say about ants. Scum.

Bees are good, though - they're more like hamsters than insects.

Last Tuesday was flying ant day. It happens every year in mid to late July.
