Dog walking?

Does anyone know a reliable dog walker around here, or a canine creche? I really want to get a dog but I work in an office three days a week so obviously it's not a good idea unless I can get someone to come in on those days and keep the dog company for an hour or so. (Dog owners: is this even enough or will I have an unhappy dog?)

How do people who work full time have dogs?! Do they leave them alone all day?

    Hello Emine, There is a canine creche on Tollington Park - it's £2 an hour and they're very nice. I don't know whether they're taking new dogs at the moment but I do know that they only tend to take smaller dogs. I have a dog but I'm at home most of the time to keep him company. Dogs can get quite unhappy if left alone all day and some can get very destructive! Hope that helps. Lucy

    And don't forget, that dog also has his own water bowl, food and attention at a nearby office....

    The local vets will also have details about dog walkers - try Zasman on Tollington Park, Dragon Vets on Hornsey Road near the junction with Hanley Road or Abbeyvet down Blackstock Road.

    I suggest you look for a low maintenance dog - as we've found you can leave the right dog on their own for quite a while without them developing behavior problems

    we have an Akita, both my wife and I work full time - we chose the Akita as it's a very low maintenance dog as she only needs walking 20 mins in the morning and 30-40 mins in the evening.

    While we're at home she stays at home and pretty much sleeps the whole day and plays with her toys for about 5 mins before she tires herself out (I know this because I left a webcam watching her for a week)

    Some people might think it's cruel to keep the dog at home while we're at work, but she does come to the office with me once a week, and the dog trainers that have visited us at home have all commented that she's a well mannered, socialised and shows no signs of distress.

    so - choose carefully.
