Take no pleasure in this, but it seems like a bunch of places are shutting down or on the edge of going. This month seems really tough for retail+restaurants. So far we've got: - Woolworths (in CE) - Pick More Daisies (in CE) - London Grooming (Dog Grooming place on Tollington closed just before christmas) and "The Plaza", formerly Red Rita, looks like it's closed but I'm not sure. And I'm not sure if we count Chrysos as an early victim.

The furniture shop in CE, Myers(?) has also gone. As has the Kompressor place on SGR.

On the flip side you have the fruit-on-a-wallpaper-pasting-table stand at the corner of Well's Terrace expanding into their shiny new Global International Continental Supermarket. They've even expanded their range from solely fruit to fruit and toilet paper now that they have a roof.

Of course, L'An 2000 Kompressor! How quickly we forget. Florians has been replaced by ["St James N8"](http://www.stjamesn8.co.uk/), which seems to have been decorated in some weird retro-Eighties NY Gordon-Gekko-era Wall Street style. Or at least, someone in Crouch End's memory of that style. I imagine they play Kenny Loggins ["Danger Zone"](http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1a_ikfUico) in there every night.

Apparently Jack's off licence on SGR opposite Jai Krishna isn't doing too well - so anyone that has given up booze for January should giveup now and go and support them

Jack's beer selection is brilliant.

A couple of casualties on Crouch Hill - Rose restaurant on our side and a clothes shop ("Under Grace"?) on CE side.

I'm not sure about Utopia. There are signs in the windows, but if you look at the very small writing after "Closing down" it says "for refurbishment"

Fried chicken place by Woodstock has been closed for ages it belongs to the shop next door and up until recently they seemed to be doing some building work inside

Met's hairdressers are doing haircuts for £5 Credit Crunch is cited as being the reason, though I expect everybody needing more hair at winter is also contributing

Can anyone confirm if Jacks is closed please? I don't often walk past it, but I went last sunday and it was closed (though assumed that was because it was a sunday?)

I was in Jacks last night to buy booze to accompany my lovely dinner at Jai Krishna. Visitors from out of the area were impressed by the price of wine in there.

Jacks is still well and truly open but he did refuse to order some Aperol in for me. Too specialist! So I will have to walk over the hill to the rip-off Italian Deli in CE every time I need a bottle - they charge £20 when the going rate is £15 online or £17 somewhere else less convenient.
