Finsbury Park to Alexander Palace Railway run by the LNER.ie Parkland Walk
Noticed that in the SGR 1945 thread that Donal seemed interested in the Railway line that used to be the Finsbury Park to Alexander Palace Railway run by the LNER.ie Parkland Walk
There is a great book on the history of the Line which has it section by section so there is a lot about the SG bit of it plus loads of photo of the stations and signal box. There used to be a signal box near to SGS called Reservoir !

For those not wanting to buy the book here are some extracts: SG Station opened 11th April 1881
1910 52 trains a day up and down the line reduced to 43 by 1939. Services ran from 7.10 am to 11.12pm.
There was a through service to Moorgate and Broad Street.
There area where Wells Terrace and Jones are etc was a Coal and Goods Depot.
According to the maps Rowans was a Ice Skating Rink (maybe Busby could confirm and tell us more ?)
Last train ran to/from Ally Pally 3rd July 1954
Platforms at Finsbury Park looking at the Photos seem to the ones that you see in front of you when standing on the Platform getting the train to Moorgate.
There where plans to completely rebuild Finsbury Park Station in 1939. The old station was demolished and the full plans for the new one stopped because the war and didn’t happen. Looking at the photo of the mock up it seemed it was going to be sort of Art Deco and a reflection of what is on the other side Station Place.
When the line was closing a set of locals tried to form a Railway Preservation Society. If they had succeeded it would have been the first normal gauge railway preservation society in the UK by 4 years !
Finally on the Gospel Oak line it didn’t use to terminate at Gospel Oak and the platform there is quite new.
It used to go down the branch that you see on the left when you arrive at the Station. So you used to be able to get the train from Crouch Hill direct to places like Kentish Town and St Pancreas . Would be very handy these days!

Not sure I've got the bit through Queens Wood quite right. I shall have to look out for where the track used to be next time I'm in Queens Wood. Sounds intriguing. I've walked along the viaduct with the view (<a href="http://osm.org/go/euu5dr2n--?m">map</a>) It's a bit of a hidden gem.
