I used to buy quite a bit in there as I wanted to give it my support as there were things in there you couldnt get in Stroud Green and it was much handier than going to CE.
I used to do present and Christmas shopping in there and buy cards, paper, cups, glasses, books, candles, house stuf, kids toys all kinds of things.
I feel really sorry for him as I think it was a struggle. It started off selling quite stylish home furnishings but maybe he had to tone it down as noone was buying it.
Such a shame as it made the road look nice as it was quite stylish looking as stood out amongst all the tatty shops.
Im really sad it has closed and wonder just how many more will close.
Oh dear - we never made it there, although we tried to go a couple of weeks ago and the shutters were down. I guess this is why. That said, running restaurants is a difficult business to make money from particularly in current financial climate so I wouldn't fear the Pawn shops just yet. I'd leave that until one opens.
How about we take control of this?
Have been reading about this local co-operative bakery - [Handmade Bakery](http://www.thehandmadebakery.coop)
The idea is that as many people as possible subscribe to receive bread each week which underpins the business plan. This should allow it to take premises and set up for the public. Profits are recirculated to the subscription holders.
If enough people think it is a good idea I would be happy to look in to it further.
That sounds lovely. How many people would we need to get it started?
Is this similar to the veggie schemes? A friend gets bags of fresh, locally-grown veg from a parking lot behind the stokey fire station. I can't remember what the scheme is called.
i loved that place, i bought so many things there, such a great place for a £10 treat. i think though maybe he has a strong online business, so perhaps he's closing the bricks & mortar but doesn't mean he's going out of business. still, so sad!
That is a shame, it was very useful for presents - especially emergency ones when you couldn't face Crouch End. First post too, hello, have been reading with alarm about the demise of independent business on SGR.
So sad that Home is closing - it's my favourite shop on Stroud Green Road. I've bought quite a lot from there over the years - mainly gifts but I've got some good stuff in the sales too.
Am hoping it will be open this weekend - I tried to go in there a week ago and it was shut.

Such a shame, poor guy.
There's a lease forfeiture notice on the shutters of Los Guaduales.
It's the beginning of the end people. How long before we have our first Cash Converters or The Money Shop on SGR?
Probably to do with all the mention of pawn shops.

Nope. Not quite. This is the sign on the shutters.
