Wedding venue
My other half and I have just got engaged... which is very exciting, except that I'm totally freaking out about how much the wedding is potentially going to cost.
We've worked out we'd like to invite about 100 people. We're happy to get married in a registry office locally and go to a local restaurant or pub, as long as there's a private room we can all sit in, get drunk and then go dancing. I'd ideally like to spend no more than £2,000 on the entire wedding, which i appreciate is ambitious... Has anyone got any suggestions? help would be much appreciated!

They've got a nice back room, but not self contained. And there were only 8 of us.

Not the few couples on here, who I'm asusming were couples anyway. But any brand new SG.org introduced relationships?
We held our reception at the camden canal museum near kings x. A very neat venue. About 600 pounds five years ago. You can bring your own food and drink. I cannot send you the link though as i am on my phone. Mum and dad paid for us to arrive by barge, but you don't have to do that.
Can only really recommend the place in NZ where we did it (The Church, Hahei, Coromandel). You should be able to come within budget. Guests might be a bit thin on the ground though.
I'm having exactly the same issues - trying to find an inexpensive wedding venue that would allow you to provide your own alcohol and catering. I've emailed the West Reservoir, so fingers crossed!
I wondered about that too but do people from the forum meet each other in the real world? Apart from at our new book club of course.
When I got married we managed to do it for under £2000 with 75 guests, we hired a hall from the council (in Broxbourne so not local but it was lovely) and did our own catering and drink. The food was a buffet which we (and friends and family) prepared in advance and some friends of my Mum's manned it and helped set it all up so the guests didn't have to. Most guests didn't realise we hadn't got in outside caterers.
For the drinks we bought a few bottles of wine and water for each table then for the evening had polypins of real ale, boxes of wine and a selection of soft drinks for people to help themselves to, which worked really well.
My Mum also made my dress and the cake which helped save money!
The marriage didn't work out but we're both still good friends and agree it was a really good do. Doing a lot ourselves made it feel a lot more personal and more 'us'.
