Venezia

Has anyone tried the new Venzia Italian resturaunt yet? I've had a couple of pizzas from there recently (takeaway) and it's pretty damn good.

I think they're struggling for custom, give them a go, they're a friendly bunch too.

Also, they have a free beer per order deal on at the moment - which is nice.

    Where the heck is Venezia?
  • edited 3:03AM
It used to be called Le Bistro.

A few down from Nando's, near Petek

looks pretty bloody dodgy if you ask me. but as le bistro did a pretty decent fried breakfast, an acceptable panini and a good cup of coffee… anyone know if it's being run by the same people as before?

    Lovely Pizzas!

Try them. The pizza guy used to work in Porchettas in Muswell Hill so knows how to make pizzas. The chef used to work somewhere in Knightsbridge at some fancy restaurant so quite good. BUT the pizzas are a must and give them support if you can!!!!!

All I know is that their menu is riddled with dodgy Italian. And that makes me deeply suspicious. If you can't actually speak Italian, just write the menu up in English. Or make an effort to find out the correct spelling - it's not that hard (go to Pappagone and look at the menu...)

Just had some takeaway pizzas (and free beer) from Venezia and they were excellent.

It was 7pm on Saturday evening and there were no other customers. I'm not surprised it's for sale. I told them about SG.org and that they were being recommended but fear it will take more than us lot to keep them in business.

I just find the layout/decor all wrong and very uninviting. Really don't know what they can do about that without spending prohibitive amounts on a refurb.

We got a couple takeaway pizzas on Sunday. They were ok. Edible, but not fantastic. The Fiorentina was too oily, and I'm not sure that the olives go with the other ingredients.

I miss Porchetta the way it used to be. The last 3 or 4 times the pizza was too thin. It used to be perfect every time. I guess they've stopped caring.

i was happier with my pizza than r_c was with hers, and the two free bottles of peroni were appreciated… but the experience of sitting in there waiting for the pizzas to be ready was a bit sad. the two people working there were really friendly, but it seemed i was the only person they'd had to talk to all day. it smacked of desperation a little. while i was in there a couple came in, the waitress offered them a table, they looked at the menu for 30 seconds and then left. it was kind of heartbreaking.
i agree with david, the layout of the place is a bit odd. but that's no reason for a place to be entirely empty all the damn time. there are other places on sgr that sit empty too - hummingbird for one, and mela always used to be empty except for the 19 waiters. i'm always happy when i pass by petek or jai krishna and there are loads of people.

My partner and I have been to Venezia twice -- once for pizzas, which were fine (the free Peronis helped!) and once for breakfast when we were too lazy to go to our usual up in Crouch End. The fry-up was above average I'd say but I'm still an amateur in this area.

Indeed, the decor/ambience is lacking something, anything in fact. Oh well, i will continue to wave to the cheery pizza chef when i walk past...

I saw a few more in there this evening, good luck to 'em!

    They're doing delivery now...

Oh Christ on a Bike. I wished I'd have seen your post earlier James. My other half maintained they didn't, and went to pick them up with his father in law. Which is all well and good, but they drank the sodding free beers while they were waiting!

Do they not have free wine for eat in and free beer for take away? Madness.

I've found the pizzas generally delicious. Unlike Pappagone and Porchetta, the base is always cripsy, and they have a decent wood-burning oven. Any criticism would be that they don't have the range of different meats that Porchetta have.

More of a takeaway than an eat in though.

On the basis that all local places should be given a chance I am currently in Venezia awaiting our take away. This could be a life changing moment ...

I can confirm no sign of free drink though.

While we're discussing SGR pizza places, I notice that Porchetta is closed six weeks for refurbishment. Given Jai Krishna seems to be undergoing something similar, that does slightly cut down on the local eating options.
  • edited 3:03AM
Jai Krishna's food is really greasy.

I hope it's over the other side of the tracks so we can see how our deadly rivals at HarringayOnline deal with Medi's approach to viral marketing.
