The Mayor and Corporation of Stroud Green
Over 250 years ago, the Stapleton Tavern was home to one of North London's most exclusive drinking clubs, where the city boys would come for a beer, some oysters and a spot of wenching. A Mayor, Sheriff and an Alderman were duly elected and a stunning enamel badge bearing the legend 'Justice, Truth and Friendship' was created.
Fast forward to 2010, and the badge was found by one of the pub's regulars. We have since bought the rights to this badge from the V&A, and are delighted to announce that we are going to be reinstating the Corporation of Stroud Green!
On 5th May, we proudly welcome the Corporation back to its original home, with an exciting relaunch of the club. The evening will kick off from 7pm onwards, where a large picture of the original badge will be unveiled and a new Mayor will be elected. This is your opportunity to join the club, which will subsequently meet once a month, and also have 2 huge feasts per year.
All are welcome to this unique event. If you would like to nominate yourself to be the Mayor of the Corporation, send an email to stapleton@antic-ltd.com, or else come in and speak to Tom or myself.
