This great site has been closed but is undergoing refit and change of boss. I heard the builders saying plan is to make it a serious sports bar (not just football) with luxury screen and downstairs dance bar - Stroud Green United (SG Utd). Depends how much they spend I guess - nothing really wrong with the old look. I do enjoy these bars specially for big events and I think there is place for one in what is not really a residential street. Now Railway is gone it will be welcome addition for Gooners (not that I am one). Mind you it could be snapped up for flats if they don't make a go of it - nearly happened when Rita's folded. Chang

I've never really understood that venue. The most uninviting 'this is a local bar for local people' pub I have ventured in to in London.<div>It's a great location for an intimate bar/restaurant to serve the local residents and pull a few in from further away and yet it always seems to fail, always upsetting the neighbours along the way.</div>

As long as they are female they can join. The WI doesn't judge people by what they do for a living. As one of our branches is in a women's prison I imagine we already have (hopefully reformed) prostitutes, drug dealers and so on among our membership there if nowhere else.

I had a chat with the new landlord yesterday. Very nice old Irish fella who has run pubs for years. His workers are all Irish too. It's going to be traditional, 'shabby chic' furnishings (which he had to ask one of the young lads to explain). He knows all about the riffraff the pub usually attracts and accepts that it will take a couple of months to get of them and attract a different crowd. He wants to create a traditional neighbourhood local. Very genial and nice but I don't think he'll stand for any nonsense from the punters, and he has a solid team of what appear to be sons to support him. Opening Friday, I wish him luck. We are going to stop by to have a look on Sunday. I don't think a gastropub is the thing for that corner, the area is already well supplied with gastro options.

<p><font size="3"><font size="2">Well I hope whoever opens up the new </font>Red Rita's , N4 pub, Fonthills , Duke of Edinburgh pub shows some respect for all the residents in Fonthill & Moray Rd. I lived directly across the pub for over 15 years and was constantly kept awake or woken up by drunken revellers. Much worse now that drinkers smoke outside in the Street. </font></p>

Who would have thought living opposite a pub could be noisy?<br><br>If the pub can survive until City North is completed then it might be ok in the longer term, I would have thought any publican struggles to turn over much profit in this location though.<br>

They shouldn't struggle, they have a great location. Slap bang in the middle of a residential area with a 5-10 minute walk to another pub.<div>The reason they do struggle is they don't do anything to appeal to all of the customers on their doorstep. Good pubs in residential areas will always have customers in the evening and at weekends. This has just never been a particularly good pub.</div>
