I saw men in hi-vis throwing stuff out of the window this morning. And this evening, the stench of mould was really rather powerful. 2 things I don't understand. 1) Why the men, if they were council, were just throwing things outside. I've watched a couple of Grimebusters, and that doesn't seem to be what's supposed to happen. And 2) why there's no front window. It's not that it's open - it's just not there. Was there a fire?
There was a window there before, it was filled with plastic dinosaurs and silk flowers with a blackout cloth behind.
I saw the lady go in and out with bags full of crap many times but hadn't seen her since I've started cycling as I don't go that way to work any more. Hope she didn't die alone without anyone noticing.
There's another house full of hoard on Crouch Hill now too, just before Mr Trebus' old house. This area seems to attract them.
I'm a bit of a hoarder... just hope my husband doesn't get to hear what happened, I don't want him to get ideas. As @dorothy says, though, it was sad to see.
It's really sad to know that someone died and then all there belongs just thrown out on the street like that. At least they could have got a couple of skips and if it was the council, they should be reported for fly tipping!<div><br></div><div>@misscara - we're pretty much neighbours.</div>
I'm in two minds with this. On one hand the lady is dead and can't do anything with her stuff anymore, but the council should have brought the stuff elsewhere, like in a church or so and and maybe sell it (fleamarket?) so that people who don't have much can get something 'new' and it would happen with a bit more dignity. I assume she didn't have anyone who cared for her, or family, or the family was fine with the council clearing the house. <br><br>I, too, hope she wasn't alone in the end.<br>
I passed the house this morning. Someone said that she hadn't died.<div><br></div><div>Apparently she is in her late 60s.</div><div><br></div><div>Is there a School called Paul's Park nearby? A girl said the lady was a teacher there.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
No, Krappy. But unfortunately we do - especially if her name happens to be Sally. I think I knew who Mary was. I hope nothing has happened to her... but it rather looks as if it has.
She didn't live in the house by herself. She lived there with her husband and her dog - I'm told she also reared 5 children in there and once worked in the MIND shop opposite Sainsburys in Stroud Grn Rd. Also, told the house belonged to a private landlord - maybe he wanted it back. Hopefully, she is alive & well and living in a one bed flat somewhere with renewed energy now that she hasn't got all that garbage to weigh her down :0).
Islington Council has responded to tweets about this. The men throwing the stuff onto the steps/street yesterday weren't council workers - they were the new owner's contractors. IC has met with them, and they (the contractors) will be clearing it up soon. If they fail to, the council will do it.
A friend of mine saw the start of this. They had a digger which smashed in the window and then just dragged loads of stuff out through it. She said there was a man there who was really upset. Regardless of whether the stuff belonged to someone living or dead, it is a horrible and shameful way to deal with a situation like this. Nobody deserves their possessions strewn over the street like this.
Everything was being cleared away by a big digger truck this morning. Still loads of vultures hanging about with Tesco trolleys waiting to pick away. Vile.
They obviously don't watch Homes Under The Hammer and listened to Martin's golden rule...."always read the legal pack and visit the property before buying at auction". After 13,852 episodes of saying the same thing, there is no excuse.
