  • Scotland is on its way out of the UK. From Nicola "We will also be seeking direct discussions with the EU institutions and its member states including the earliest possible meeting with the President of the European Commission. I also be communicated over the weekend with each EU member state to make clear that Scotland has voted to stay in the EU and I intend to discussion all options for doing so." Get up there quick before the price of houses rockets in Scotland as half of London moves to Edinburgh ! Gibraltar will also cease being a UK Territory they votes 98.5 % remain.
  • You must be thrilled about that Ali, I seem to remember you're very pro Scottish independence.

Scotland will be lucky if there's much of Europe left to join the way this is going.
  • @miss annie - quite. It's the consequences of austerity that is the root cause of the problem, not the EU.
  • It does feel like a protest vote gone horribly wrong.

With the presidential campaign in the US and the referendum in the UK something has been unleashed that may become impossible to control. The media says the vote is a reaction of citizens being ignored by their government but it's the establishment who instigated this. Johnson, Gove, Grayling and the others in the Tory leave camp can gloat now that they've exploited an issue that puts them into power position but let's see what happens if the En-ga-land they stoked starts turning on them like the Trumpeteers have in the US.
  • Quite. Wait until the average brexiter discovers that we can't really reduce immigration without breaking the economy, and that access to the single market involves following the EU _aquis_ whether you have influence over it or not. The beliefs of Hannan, Gove and Johnson and their ilk are fundamentally different to the nativists in that respect, and they're gong to come a cropper for it. Real culture war stuff. This, from Lord Ashcroft, shows then depth of the division: ![](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CltVc6WWMAER8qd.jpg:large "")

Love it. The remainiacs are still kicking off.

17 million people now called racists despite voting for a man who called for an amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Be pissed off if Jeremy gets ousted for no reason but then hate beats hope every time I guess.
  • Holborn Fox you can make a rationale case for Brexit even if most in London disagree. This campaign was a disgrace from both sides. And trusting one group of establishment types to another is worrying. It is important to move forward and deal with the issues we now face, particularly as the EU only played a minor role in the concerns raised by Brexit which are due to factors around austerity, globalisation and inequality. This has been forgotten in a UK political system which is increasingly undemocratic with 1/4 of voters in the last general election represented by 2% of MPs. But from your foxhole it must be easy to sneer at others.
  • LOL, i told you that hate beats hope every time, still, this old fox is far too wily to snaffle the vile bait you have laid down. Imagine if i had said that to you, probably the same reaction if a load of far right thugs went down to Jeremy's house and started swearing and shouting at him. I actually don't want crazy right-wingers running the country, i just stand up and answer the language banded about by the Illuminati who only encounter socio-economic migrants when they are having their house cleaned or the kids need looking after. I wonder if you would be brave enough to admit that your comment is out of line?
  • People keep making calm and measured arguments which you keep responding to in a sneering tone while accusing others of sneering. Even when they are broadly agreeing with you. Not a good look.
  • No sneering, I simply stand up, that is never a good look for the people that are being answered.

Oh well, let's see if the OP wants to rescind the blatant insult.
  • Yesterday I discovered that one of our goods in guys genuinely believes that the Government (he wasn't specific about whether Tory & Labour have the power), controls the weather and that they made it rain to try to stop people voting Leave.

He also believes in the Illuminati and that Queen is a lizard. This was all revealed in a huge staff room rant before the result was announced apparently. He's usually the quietest, most mild mannered chap in town.
  • It is sad when sneering becomes sport. Does Holborn Fox want to make that rationale case for Brexit or continue his virtual sneering? Onto more serious observations - did anyone else notice the number of people on TV who voted to ,leave who have said in effect Oops? Very anecdotal of course but it may be linked to the number of people who are only now looking up on the Internet what the EU does - you would of hoped people would of done this before they voted! It is one of the top 10 searches on the web over past 24 hours.
  • More interesting maybe is the 2 million signatures on the petition. It has increased by 200k in the last hour or two

To appease 48% and the brexit Oops lot who didn't really want to commit complete economic suicide I predict a deal on trade with the EU which will also include some free movement. We might even have to pay something for that. Switzerland have managed to pull off a trade deal with 28 countries including China, Japan, South Africa and Canada. That's less inward looking than the EU, it's a big world out there. They can still sell this as leaving the EU on the sovereignty point. Hopefully......or maybe we are screwed.
  • Oh dear, it's all got a bit messy on here hasn't it?

Why would we want to discuss these international issues anywhere else but the stroud green forum?
  • I spoke to one of our esteemed councillors on Friday. Apparently Stroud Green ward was c.88% in, among if not the highest in the country.

No harm in discussing this issue, just remember to be kind and civil and play the ball not the man.
  • We could go back to StroudGreen forum old days when we talked about whether cats were socialists and whodunnit mysteries from Stroud Green's past?!?

@arkady "Play the ball not the man": I like that, will keep it in my back pocket for some time in the future....

Regarding our voting tendencies, I guess that makes us the polar opposite of Boston in Lincolnshire. Perhaps Corbs should organise a Hamas and Israel style meeting between us "to start a dialogue" at some point in the future.....

    Cats don't like sharing sovereignty.
  • Dogs are better together!
  • Cats are capitalist, Catholic, Leavers. Dogs are Socialists.

  • @missannie Also don't understand the tieing of capitalists with leavers. Most archetypal capitalists were remainers. Justify such controversial comments!
  • The poll results above suggest that capitalism is the one thing remainers and leavers are equally divided on.
  • I was very specifically talking about cats. Not people who voted leave or remain.
