  • yes, we have freeview, but it isn't finding anything when it autotunes, and when I plug the aerial lead directly into the TV, that doesn't work either i.e. we can't even get the five basic channels. So I think it's an external aerial thing.

  • I agree too. I really like this site, especially for information about the area and advice about local matters/ good tradespeople etc. I'm not in favour of bans except in exceptional circumstances. That said, I'm one of those people who rarely post…
  • We have begun to use Dhonia rather than Dinner Box. The King prawn dhansak is great, and we prefer the way they do their aubergine. Delivery time always good too.

  • Mikep - I used to think the same about the unit that is now Dotori, after seeing cafe after cafe fail. If it's good, it will last.

  • and a really good range of tomatoes - not just big or small, please.
  • We ended up getting married (officially) at Islington Town Hall, and then had a ceremony with a humanist celebrant a few days later at Roast restaurant, in Borough Market. It was neither cheap nor local in the end, but we had an absolutely lovely da…
  • I'm with you Brodie. I went there a couple of weeks ago, and although I thought it was pretty good, it ended up being almost as expensive as somewhere like Petek's, for food and ambience which wasn't as good.
  • Hi there Ash, I'm really looking forward to your shop opening and am hoping it will be a bit like the absolutely amazing place in Newington Green, which I only discovered quite recently. If you're anything like that, or some of the places in Crouch…
  • We ended up using a guy called Piotr, who runs this company http://www.mila-pl.com/offer.php He was really excellent. Came round on the day that we phoned him, and his guy started work the following week. The quote was good value and the guy worke…
  • What I really want is a properly waterproof small digital radio which I can listen to while in the shower. I wouldn't be putting it under the shower itself, but our bathroom gets very steamed up, so it needs to pretty hardy. Ian, would the Pure Oasi…
  • I have just got back from Season - my fourth time there, each one excellent. My friend's sea bass was particularly good, and he and his wife were saying that there is nowhere in Crouch End that (as well as in N4) that matches it for food and atmosph…
  • I was eating in Season - there were absolutely loads of police along Perth Rd. At least six cars and a couple of vans, plus police dogs. No idea what was going on though.
  • Hi Dorothy, Re the above, would it be possible to come and have a look at the room sometime? Perhaps you could whisper me back to suggest a good time. Ben

  • This might be a stupid question, but if it's a front, why go to the expense of refurbishing it twice within a year?

  • Yes, when I went past he was playing 'Go Now', which took me right back to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGEBh7xybRc still quite funny, surprisingly.
  • I've just walked all the way down Stroud Green Rd, and some of the way along Seven Sisters Rd, and it is quiet and relaxed. Less tense than normal, I'd say.

  • Thanks for these. I'm not sure why I didn't think of Fredericks myself, since I went there about two months ago immediately after getting married. I am an idiot.
  • I guess I could. I have thought about using it as a teaching aid, as it represents reasonably accurately what some US prisons were like in the 1970s.

  • Not at all rude - especially since I am a 'penologist', which actually sounds slightly rude, depending on maturity level. Basically, I do research on prisons - often in prisons. I have written quite a lot about 'the prisoner society', how prison…

  • thanks dorothy and dett. @dett I will check out the websit @dorothy I will whisper to you in a minute. @misscara my work is pretty portable: a memory stick and a few books and articles are about as much as I would ever be carrying around. But …

  • Thanks Miss Annie. The other thing I have considered is seeing if anyone in the area wants to rent me a room to use during the day, Monday to Friday. I am an academic, and just need a space in which to work from November, once I become a father a…

  • Free teabags and instant coffee granules, plus milk, but you have to pay if you use the Flavia machine. Regular emails pointing out that the money in the little cashbox is inconsistent with the number of sachets that have been used. Some think this …

  • 'At this moment in time'. As opposed to space? 'Rightly or wrongly'. One thing I notice is that football pundits all seem to latch onto certain words or phrases at the same time. So suddenly everyone starts using the term 'instrumental' - cor…

  • thanks Andy, and thanks for the ideas everyone else. I would have replied sooner but am away on holiday. We may need somewhere bigger than Fredericks, which I think only takes 120 - we would prefer a smaller wedding, but both have large families.…
  • my girlfriend and I have just got engaged. We don't yet know numbers of budget, so perhaps it's a bit premature to ask for guidance, but we would like to hire out a decent restaurant, somewhere in London. We are considering Fredericks, in Islington,…
  • I too have been mistaken for a policeman. Sign me up.
  • Perhaps this is wishful thinking, but I think Blackstock Rd is ripe for gentrification and will smarten up quite quickly once something like this happens. That said, I really like the Finsbury Park Superstore and will be a bit sad to see it repl…
  • There may be another Sainsburys coming to the area. The guy who owns the Finsbury Park Superstore on Blackstock Rd says that they have bought him out, and should be moving in early next year.
  • Hi Jamber, I live on Adolphus Rd, which runs off Queens Drive/Gloucester Drive, and have been here for five years. I like it a lot - it's much nicer and more interesting than most people think, and it is slowly getting nicer. Lots of character, a…
