I don't want to tempt fate, but I haven't seen any at all in my flat yet this year. Maybe something to do with being top floor, but then there were a couple of MASSIVE house spiders last year. The thought that they may be hiding under the sofa/bed/f…
Ugh, horrible. Always at this time of year. Last August I was sitting at my computer when I felt a tickle on my left foot and looked down to see one of the biggest spiders I've ever seen outside of a zoo, perched on my foot. I've since found out tha…
I've had to resort to leaving my glovebox empty and open, and also have taken the parcel shelf out with nothing in the boot. Previously my car was broken into 7 times in the space of about 18 months (parked on Albany / Stapleton Hall Roads). Nothing…
dawnage - great, hope to hear from you soon.
miss annie - yes, we volunteered (bravely?! foolishly?!) for the Mary Portas prog. I've no idea why it has been removed but will try to find out tomorrow!
Seeing as noone has objected so far, dawnage - I work for Martyn Gerrard in Crouch End. We sell properties in Stroud Green regularly too and I live in the Upper East side so am keen to ensure my neighbours get good service (they mostly know where I …
Hi dawnage. I manage a local estate agency, and am quite nice :) However, I don't want to break any advertising/plugging rules on the forum! Am I allowed to mention the company name in case you want to contact us?! Discount for being a SG.orger!
N19 is Upper Holloway (which includes archway). London postcodes are in alphabetical order (except for the most central ones eg N1). N18 is upper edmonton, N20 Whetstone etc
Brodiej, I would say you're still in SG. Upper Holloway has to be N19. Tollington is dead (pending rescusitation), definately not Finsbury Park or Crouch End.
Some of the road names in Hornsey Vale (nee Abyssinia) changed after they had started to be built on as well. Nelson Rd used to be called Oakworth Road (there is still an Oakworth Court on the road) and there were also Gordon, Hanbury, Canon, Abyssi…
I don't blame you for walking away brodie, there is always a risk of being assaulted yourself or much worse if you intervene. Look at that chap a few years back who got stabbed to death on a bus for asking someone to stop throwing chips at other pas…
My experience (during 8 years as an Estate Agent) is that solicitors outside London, particularly large call-centre-type operations, are very often those who cause the problems that delay and often ruin property transactions. Sorry if I sound negati…
My car has been broken into 6 times in the past 14 months on Albany Rd / Stapleton Hall Road. Nothing is ever on display and I've now had to resort to leaving the glovebox open and taken the passenger shelf out so that would-be-thieves can see every…
I would have said they were 1870s or thereabouts, but I'm sure the website I mention above is well-researched and I quote
"Leases were granted in Hanley Road c. 1840, and by 1849 Hanley Road and Tollington Park were about half filled, mainly with…
According to British History online, Hanley Rd was built up between approx 1840 and 1890 (half of the houses being built in the first 10 years) if that helps..

Had the "healthy menu" on Sunday evening. The hot meze was pretty good but all the cold stuff was disappointing and SOO salty it should be called the "hypertensive" menu. Warm white wine when it was brought out too, although they did put it in a coo…

I must try Les Associes on Park Rd soon, keep hearing really good things but just that little bit further to heave my overstretched belly back to SG
Aww come on! We're definately not all bad. Unfortunately (and as with any industry) there are some bad ones and they're the ones that get all the press.
I've been meaning to find a local dentist for quite a while (well, about 8 years!). Am intending to try one of the Crouch End ones soon (Weston Park or the one on Crouch Hall Rd) and will let you know how I get on! (if anyone has any horror stories …
Had a (large) chicken doner at kebabalicious on thursday. Really good kebab and very tasty, although not quite as healthy-feeling as their roast-lamb one. Still highly recommended and a huge amount of food for £5 (and yes, I ate every last morsel).
