Here's my closing suggestion: I think it might help to see the difference between how we describe one another as individuals and how society describes us. I am an individual with brown eyes, and female etc etc. You might describe me differently, but…
Yes. The office for national statistics consulted widely on census categories & yes they are fixed into 16 groups. When people's individual ethnicity is recorded those individuals self- assign which group they belong to.
And...having been part of the women's movement for decades, I think it is also important to say that you have to define those discriminated against first and campaign for equal treatment long before you can refer to someone as a "person"
This is good debate. I can see now that what the census has struggled to do is not the same as how people think about themselves and others. La lotta continua.
That is a good way forward. I'm reminded of an Irish exhibition where a guy repeatedly explains he is Irish when asked: where are you from? Those asking are all incredulous simply because he has dark brown skin.

I'm posting a message from Cathy Meus, chair of the Parkland Walk about the risks of closure of the Parkland Walk if users don't observe the physical distancing rule: "Hi all - I would like to put out an important message to all users of the Parkla…
This group has a lot of volunteer support across the spectrum. It probably doesn't hark from Labour but rather from a growing need. You can join and pls share widely in N4.
Has anyone an update on whether the victim survived this terrifying incident? All I found in the local media was the initial bloodstained details & no follow up.
Attacks by dogs on people have increased by 76%. It is an offence against the 1991 Act for an owner to allow their to be dangerously out of control. This incident & attacks cited on Crouch End Appreciation society yrsyerday clearly show this wom…
I witnessed the attack at Bacchus & it was my dog that was attacked -NOT chased Miss Annie- twice last week in the park. The vicious dog is called Elsie & it also went for a passer by. I didn't see the details as I was protecting my dog. If…
