Too late, tenancy agreement signed. I don't have much choice, anyway - I have to move out of my Florence Road flat.
I think I will quite enjoy N7, though...

When I was a kid dog shit on the pavement was ubiquitous. I really haven't seen anything comparable to what I remember - but I certainly hope we're not heading back to those dark ages!
I'm slightly intrigued as to what 'dodgy going-ons' might require a high voltage transformer. I'm assuming there's just some dark corners around there or something?
Mind you, I hadn't even noticed there was a substation on Lorne Road. Or possibly…
BTW, as a veggie, random kebab shops don't hold a huge attraction for me (although I've certainly known some that have done awesome felafels and other veggie food). Carveries, ditto, not a huge attraction.

@Arkady: FWIW, HOLLY PARK is the estate - the tower block is called ILEX HOUSE
(Sorry for uppercaseness - but writing Ilex House (as they do on the sign outside it) is just confusing in a sanseriff font :-)
EDIT: Actually, IIRC HOLLY PARK is signp…
The odd thing is we had a power cut due to a failed electricity cable on the corner of Florence and Marquis only a week earlier. Given the two incidents were about 10 feet apart, I wonder if there has been some kind of subsidence that damanged both…
Oh, on the subject of trains, did you see that the redevelopment of the tube station (including lifts) is back on again, as part of the City North project?

EDIT: Oh, just saw there's already a thread about it - never mind...
The digger is on Florence Road now (corner of Marquis). I can hear the party from here!
I just heard a neighbour chatting to the guys working on it, and they were saying they hoped to have power back on in 30-45 minutes

Yes, that makes sense, kind of, but a bit puzzling that your power is back and mine isn't. They're digging just across the road from me now - maybe there's a second fault...

Virgin telephone - never had any problems (but I don't use the landline all that much these days anyway).
Virgin broadband. Been fine recently, although it did go through a bad patch about 6 months ago due to an area fault that took them a long ti…
@Arkady: Well, I did some reading on this, so on the off chance that you're intersted...
None of these terms are used entirely consistently, but affordable housing seems to be largely used as an umbrella term for any form of subsidising housing, in…
Thanks, that makes sense.
I wonder whether they have been advised to pretend it’s permanent to
get it through planning for odd legal reasons, but that’s pure
speculation.
I wonder whether Islington weren't willing to grant permission on the ba…
If it’s temporary I don’t have any objections to it, if it is permanent then I do.
@Arkady; it seems a hell of a lot better than what's there now. Anything to address the run down nature of the area. What's your objection to it?
TfL have updated their station signage!
The overhead sign now says 'For Wells Terrace use exits further along the platform' and there are additional (new) signs on the wall at the exit saying 'No exit to Wells Terrace'

I really don't understand the responses to this thread, either.
For heaven's sake, the Department of Transport manages to send out road tax reminders, and to operate a pragmatic appoach to people who are late renewing their tax whereby rather than …

Don't forget 'unseasonably dry weather' - we had hosepipe bans in much of the country not that many months ago
