What has happened to SG.org?

  • A yearly fee of say a fiver and a code of conduct
  • For the most folk on this forum are pretty balanced, some are  bit political, others couldn't give a rip, some are a bit class conscious (either way) nearly everyone is locally on the ball and quick to check out whats going on in the hood and some people I just love cause they are funny.   I love it when a thread goes way off track into bizarre tangents and then I tut myself for having spent so long reading something so off beam but so often it makes me laugh or gets me thinking.  (and I wish I was as witty as them)  <br><br>The other thing is wondering what people look like - I have  images in my head of what someone might look like  (like what radio people must look like because of their voices) and then I  read a post and realise that I have made a big error  like they are female when I thought they were male or something.   <br>I love SGO and hope it stays and that its mojo is just going through one of those stages....<br><br>Hey krappy how come not neergduorst...actually just doesnt have the same ring does it.<br>enjoy the sun beams everyone<br><br>
  • When I said a fee, I meant something like £2 but I have no idea how much sites like this cost to run. But I'd be happy to support fundraising too.
  • I love stroudgreen.org I'd be happy to pay a nominal fee to keep it running. It's really fun and useful. Commiserations on not getting the lottery funding.
  • I like anonymity. 'Mirandola' only makes me semi-anonymous because a few people here know my real name but it shields me from immediate googling.
  • Wot @Mirandola said and wot @barebackreader said about identifying e.g. addresses - and besides, don't the founders know who we all are? Fine with a nominal fee, though.
  • <p>I think a solution might be to ban an IP address rather than just a user.  Although IPs change every so often and some die hard multiple users might use two or more computers,  it could be a way round blocking multiple users or at least causing them some inconvenience.  I really don't like it when people use multiple names on here.  It's very shady.  </p><p>I think a fundraiser might be a better idea to raise cash for the running of this site.  A music/comedy/poetry... night.  Maybe at my favourite bar, the Sugar Lounge.</p>
  • I wonder if the time has come for people to throw off the cloak of anonymity and mingle (Sugar Lounge one option......there are better ones) to restore confidence in this noble enterprise?   I mean it's already happening, book club etc.   <br>
  • Hi all,<br><br>I really like the website and appreciate all the time and effort put on maintaining it. Although I don't post frequently, I always check the forums to see what is going on in the area. <br><br>It is sad to see that one person has caused all this disruption and I would agree with a having a code of conduct and with actually banning people when posts are offensive and things get out of hand (as it clearly has).<br><br>I don't think a fee would be a good idea and I agree with @Calouste that it would result in a loss of inclusiveness and also agree with @kreuzkav that a (or more) fundraisers' night would be a good possibility. And, @krappyrubsnif, great idea about mingling... it would be great to meet more people from the area.<br>
  • Andy you do a fantastic job, and I think this site is a great community.  I've met some lovely people here (both online and in person), and I wouldn't know about most of things going on in the area if it wasn't for this site.  In the few years I've been visiting the site I've found it goes through phases where a few twats dominate and ruin it for everyone else, but hopefully they are outnumbered by those posting interesting and useful threads.<div><br></div><div>Chrisn4 - there's no need to take over every thread - I'm sure like a lot of people here, I now skip past your comments because I can't be bothered to read such a load of drivel and you are quite clearly just looking to wind people up.  It's just childish and boring. </div><div><br></div><div>Andy please don't be disheartened, there are lots of here that really do appreciate all your hard work. </div>

I think there should be a SGO bar/cafe. Maybe take over River Cafe or re Open the classic Chapter Uno. Chrisn4 goes on 2 much and is spiteful. Still aloud to insult ppl. My relative was banned and he is a totally inoffensive person if a but old fashioned (sorry m8 if u r reading this ;). Also some other ppl who only seemed to have views on recycling. Ain't we all? I hope this site continues, even tho I have been bashed a few times ( and prob been annoying a few too). Chang
  • <P>I would like to apologise for the swear words and offensive comments that I have written on this thread.</P> <P>I think swearing like that is terrible.I wish I wouldn't do things like that.Especially bad swear words.</P> <P>The fact that I was hammered on booze on an all day bender at the time is not relevant beacause other people get drunk and don't do that.</P> <P>Drinking too much booze is a problem that I hope to deal with.To be honest I am fighting a battle against the bottle. </P> <P>I even call myself a disgrace to Stroud Green.</P> <P>An absolute disgrace to Stroud Green. </P>
  • @chrisN4, I've heard it said that admitting you have a problem is halfway to solving it - so good on you. Do go and see your doc for help, it's not an easy battle. And take down your thread about Chang - even if you don't like him, getting that personal isn't nice. Good luck!
  • <P>changn4n6 likes to get personal - so its a case of if you cant take the heat get out of the kitchen i am afraid...i dont like it that chang called miss annie the c word then did not apologise - i find that crosses the line to be honest...banter and a few piss takes are one thing but calling a woman the c word and then not apologising is unacceptable in my book...</P> <P>just saying </P>
  • vetski - i have got a problem with drinking too much booze and i admit its about time i tried to pack in the beers...
  • I think Chris we can assume you're Chang as well since you've left a trail of evidence over the last few days. I agree beers and the net don't mix.  Well, I found whisky the devil on here!

<P>tollington tom change his name to changn4n6 in a creative attempt to reinvent himself after he came under heavy fire from the usual sg.org suspects...i am mrannoymouse74,the northern heights,sg steve and chrin4...also in a failed attempt to reinvent myself with regard to style of posting...keep up kreuzkav...nothing sinister about it just a bit of fun..</P> <P>carry on </P>
  • Tollington Tom was your more interesting and funny personna.  I remember having a discussion on here when you went into a 'fight club' scenario.  White Lion people versus posh Season's people.  Casual wear versus jumpers over shirts.  It was very creative and funny.  I forgot about that.
  • <P>tollington tom was the more funny persona...</P> <P>but not me...</P> <P>in a drama the actors put on many different masks to play many different a roles...bill Shakes ...and all that...</P> <P>no that wasnt tollington tom or changn4n6...that was the northern heights or chrisn4 or sgsteve.. cant remember which...to be an actor on the stage is to try and play as many different roles as you can...and they say that all the world is a stage...</P> <P>keep up kreuzkav..</P>
  • I'm trying to keep up with your post-structuralist take on forums.  Maybe it was SG. steve who did the 'fight club' thing.  It was good.  The White Lion people would be at one end of SGR and the Season's posh boys on another.  The casual attire with burly beer bellies verus the slim joggers.  A fight would ensue on the the corner of SGR and Tollington Park.  The White Lion people would use might but the jumpers over shirts would use the martial arts training they got in their gyms in Crouch End back at the barbarians.  I can't remember who won.
  • thats it kreuzkav - i like talking about the theme of social class because it is something that is on peoples minds but they dont talk about it socially as it a taboo - but on a forum you can talk about things like that - many people are snobs in england and they find it rather shaming to admit it - so in drama or the arts then social class is a major theme as it is allowing people to think about and enjoy laughing at snobbery and thoughts that are on their mind that they dont want to admit to their friends - i dont exclude myself from this... the left wing used to talk about class all the time then they lost that socialist battle so now talk about the rights of minority groups hence the outrage when anything that can be seen perhaps wrongly as sexist or homophobic is discussed - the left feel like they have a duty to attack when perhaps to listen would be more productive...
  • I agree with you on the class issue.  People think it's gone away, but you go to any up and coming area, bar, club, restaurant in London and who do you see there.  The middle class.  They might have risen above their rank, but generally they're from posh backgrounds.  They have the swagger, the contacts, the money and the confidence.  Most people who have risen above their rank have special skills (creative, intellectual), but many of the people will be average posh people who had good cultural and social capital, but average or low intellectual skills.  Class persists.  Look at the worship of the monarchy.  It's crazy why people look up to a family who are just people like the rest of us.   Can't understand that?  It's like me thinking I should worship the pope or my teddy bear.
  • i agree with you mr k ...the monarchy should be done away with like it was in the republic in england in the 17th century...civil war...the monarchy just sends a message out to the world that we are happy with the class system...the french had an answer for that...off with their heads...but not her majesty the queen the duke chas and bill quite like them...and kate shes fit...and my favourite princess diana loved diana

<p>I feel like we're going back to feudal times at the moment.  Next thing we'll be cap in hand when the gentry walk up Stroud Green road from Seasons in their shirts and jumpers and flat caps with beards of course.  Only today I was in Tesco and some beardo Season's type with his posh girlfriend barged me out of the way as they walked down the aisle  hand in hand taking it all over.  Next thing they'll all have babies and turn SGR road into Church Street.  We'll have to jump out of the way when the beardos with their posh gfs mow us down with their buggies thinking their offspring are the second coming.</p>
  • <P>talking about feudal times the sg authorities have usually locked us peasants out of sg.org by this time...well after midnight...</P> <P>but today they must have forgotten that the clocks have gone forward...  so we can keep posting...</P> <P>do you read the islington tribune.?...free outside tesco in sg rd...that is quite a left wing paper...just asking mr k ?</P>
  • <P>politics...osborne has scored a big own goal with his granny tax...mistake...people might take it out on boris and not vote for him...</P> <P>on a separate issue ...read the rula lenska interview in the mail on saturday...about her relationship with minder and the sweeneys denis waterman...an interesting feature...perhaps it is on the mailonline website to read ? its about women who are a victim of domestic violence...</P> <P>i understand the theme that you are pursuing mr k ...i think people like to feel at home with familiar surroundings...people like what they are used to ...and if things change...as you say they are doing...then many people dont like it as they feel comfortable with what they are familiar with...</P>
  • <P>yes - what has happened to SG.org?</P> <P>medieval latin - - makes me wish i hadnt bunked off skool that day...do they teach that these days? they should do...</P> <P>to glassblowing (no pun intended)</P> <P>carry on</P> <P> </P>
  • <p>Well I hope you feel better Chrisn4 the booze is a bugger if it gets hold of you. There is a medieval Latin translator and a Glassblower who use this site, plus 100's of other people with interesting jobs.</p><p>I was born working/lower class and would hate to think I would ever change my class it is an indication of where you came from.</p><p>Class is not a problem in the UK anymore unless you let it become a problem.</p>
  • <p>@Detritus.  I agree with you that class is less of a problem.  There's a lot more social mobility now than in previous times.  There's still a class system and jobs for the boys (public school boys) through contacts.  Although that's dying out.  I know of a few public schoolboys who are in their 20s finding the job market equally as daunting as the rest of us.  And if you have a particular skill, it's often the way forward now.</p><p>As you probably have guessed a few of the above posts were exagerations and jokes.  I know people from different classes.  Some have beards, wear jumpers over shirts.  However, I don't like the smug landed gentry type.  Then again I don't like the working class yob either.  </p><p> </p>
  • I had a job proofreading latin once.
