New Costa?
  • Apparently the empty shop on the corner of Woodstock & SGR is going to become a Costa (according to the guys in Budget Supermarket next door).

  • Is that where Empire Electronics used to be ?

  • No idea, don't think I've ever heard of/seen that! Budget Supermarket is opposite John Jones; they expanded into the place on the corner, but then gave it up when they discovered that a Sainsbury's was going to be built under the new flats where Peter Phillips used to be.

  • Who needs a Costa? There's already one in Haringey. I'd take Vagabond over Costa any time.

And I'm not keen on the new Sainbury local near the station. It's terrible. They spread like diseases.

  • Beats another wig shop! And at least it's not Starbucks.

  • I wanted to talk to that bakery in Stokey for ages and tell them about the opportunities here. They make the best cheesecake I've tasted in the UK and they have wonderful bread. Two shops in Church St. and they are going well. If they could open here, that'll be great.

  • Two Costas on Wood Green High Road, one in Crouch End, one at the Green Lanes shopping park. Obviously another is needed :S

  • There's a Costa across from the FP station on Seven Sisters too.

  • Just what we needed. Another coffee shop.

  • Would prefer a Starbucks, they are at least vegan-friendly unlike Costa or Cafe Nero.

  • didn't know that. what makes them vegan friendly? soy milk?

  • Soya milk and milk powder free hot chocolate.

Cafe Nero offer soya milk but they have milk powder in their hot chocolate.
I'm not sure Costa even offer soya milk.
  • I have been getting Soya milk coffees from Costa for ages - you just have to ask for it.
Not sure what brand they use though.

  • I would be very happy with a Costa, Diddums to the tiny minority of whinging vegans in 'SG' have a tap water, some grass and pipe down.

  • Don't they just use Alpro anyway?  Just makes it a sweet nasty drink, rather just have it black.

  • The empty shop on the corner of Woodstock Rd and SGR used to be part of the Budget Supermarket and Off-Licence next door - they downsized the shop dramatically a while back, I imagine probably to reduce costs in anticipation of the new Sainsbury's in the Vista development hurting their trade.

  • I would second a costa - the coffee's better than nero or starbucks any day. I am also really looking forward to the sainsburys - I do like the guys running that little budget supermarket but they don't really offer much there sadly.

  • I hope the Costa doesn't hurt Vagabond's trade.

  • Who needs costa with the lovely coffee places at sgr/tollington? Boulangerie Bon Matin and the other funky little place. also great coffee in the little cafe in the bus station on the corner opposite the waffle shack

  • The bus station cafe being La Brioche D'or? -  the cafe with the sign that kind of says Costa, but something's odd's happened to the letter 'C'?

I seem to remember someone on here saying they buy their coffee from Costa?

Curious as to which one is 'the other funky little place' though :-)

    roy

  • Vagabond's?

  • Probably. The nice coffee place is the tiny one opposite the 210 bus stop. Nice home made cake as well as tasty and cheap (£1.30) mocha.

  • Costa's pastries are utterly vile.
Whilst their coffee is better than Starbucks and Nero - it's not a patch on Vagabond!
You won't see me going in there.

Support your local coffee shops, people!

  • We've heard from our landlords that the Railway Pub Opp Wells Terrace Exit has been acquired by Starbucks. So it seems like it's a matter of time

  • The Railway did have an 'Acquired' sign on it a few weeks ago, although it doesn't striker me as a Starbucks location.

  • It's a terrible pub.  Possibly irredeemably so.

  • hopefully the pub sign will be saved by somone

  • It's a beautiful building.

  • There's a school of thought which says that all pubs called The Railway are terrible: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/pumpkin/2004/11/pub-science/

  • If true, this would seem like a good move by Starbucks...
