<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:150%">To extend coverage of the conference, I would like to add that there was sharing of the local community representatives support, for a potential tri-borough neighbourhood forum, roughly comprising the:<br>• Finsbury Partnership Regeneration (FPP) areas in: Haringey, Hackney and Islington and was one of the concluding points, raised by Mr Jeremy Corbyn, MP.<br>• This had also been raised by Cllrs Strickland and Greening in closing messages.<br>Local people value their role in the story of change and improvement in the area. They felt this is something worthwhile and this was one of the messages, coming across in the Traders Focus group, I attended at the conference led by a local business proprietor, Peter Mudahy, PAK Trading/Finsbury Park Trust.<br><br>The potential for local people to be involved has a legacy of small scale intervention, enabling the local economy to continue and improve its offer to the people.<br>• I was involved in the project to improve Stroud Green Road in 2002-3 in which a vision was prepared to improve a site in Haringey, now where popular Vagabond Café is located.<br>• The main feature of the project was work to get improved access, via a pedestrian controlled crossing across Upper Tollington Park and Stroud Green Road junction. Then perhaps as concession to costly demolition and rebuilding of the public garden, by the café, the walls for the garden were rebuilt.<br>• Planting perhaps based on the illustrations I was involved in producing was installed.<br>Perhaps this may be a model for the piazza, suggested at the conference as part of the station regeneration. Improving vistas of Finsbury Park and enabling space for trading (street market) were voiced. Watch this space. <br></p>
Those plans for the 2.5year closure of Wells Terrace exit essentially say "Welcome to all Stroud Green, Crouch End and Muswell Hill bus users - you can all get f*cked". The station's a bombscare at the best of times without funnelling another ton of people into the Station Place entrance. No wonder Islington council didn't publicise the works too broadly - the majority of Wells Terrace users must surely live in Haringey. <div> </div><div><br></div><div>If TFL would perhaps extend Zone 2 to Harringay or Hornsey (even AP) stations for the duration, it might take some pressure off.</div><div><br></div>
Thanks for updates on all this.<div><br></div><div>Love that bit about closing the station entrance for all the people who travel in from north of it for two-and-a-half years.</div><div><br></div><div>'<span style="color: rgb(85, 85, 85); font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">When I put this to Cllr Greeing (Islington) he said that they hadn't even considered it.'</span></div><div><br></div><div>Says all you need to know about our council really.</div><div><br></div><div>I think a Stroud Green-wide improvement lobby would be a good thing and would gladly get involved. <span style="font-size: 10pt;">Stroud Green has got where it is today with no help from the councils</span></div><div><br></div><div>I for one with that as a start the champagne socialists at Islington Council would fix our pavements and bring our area up to the standard they obviously think the rich folk of Upper Street, Highbury etc deserve and get.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
