Does anyone have any news on the unit at Clifton Terrace?
Regarding the ex-Walnut unit, a large "Arts Building" sticker was put on the windows and it's empty inside, so it doesn't seem like a new restaurant is opening there.
It seems like some of the staff are starting a new thing (https://www.bvcatering.co.uk) but it's not clear to me at all what is actually happening to the SGR location.
Any idea what's happening at The Goods Office? I hear Neil has left and the website is now down. I was planning to take guests (who loved Season) from out of town but, I'm now having second thoughts.
The guy from Il Piccolo Diavolo told me he was going to upscale and take over the old La Porchetta site a while ago as he's full up every weekend.
Bold move considering it totally has the small taverna feel at present, allthough he more recently said it will be after the summer so maybe second thoughts (or maybe he's busier in the winter).
Did we already mention somewhere that Val and Ben from Season are now doing the food at Volume? It's such a great place, though Inalso have a lot of time for the no-frills and superb music approach of Baccus over the road.
Yeah, I'm not sure it's a wise move personally, unless he's planning on selling take away pizza.
I noticed that every restaurant was rammed tonight on my way home, Baccus was empty though which seemed a shame, maybe it's too hot for that type of place
It is indeed. I was walking past as the opening night was going on and had a peek in. Seems the entire ground floor of the building has been stripped out - back to the concrete frame. It's a vast space.
it is Skip gallery but I dont think they are based at Kings Cross they just pop up anywhere they can put a skip, I imagine that is what this is and it will be empty again in a few weeks
Oooh! Looks like we are getting ANOTHER wine shop! Just a few doors down from Mind, where [one of] the Italian places used to be, Butler’s is coming: wine, cheese, charcuterie.
If this new one is although a wine bar I hope they will be serious about it. Oak N4 is nice but I have to say I am really disapointed with those 2 new places on stroudgreen. Their wine list is quite limited, if I remembed well ordering per glass you could choose between 3 red and 3 white, a bit of a joke as most of the pub have more choice and sometimes better products.
I also notice they pretty much had nothing when it comes to nature/biodynamic/or bio wine, which seems to me a bit weird in 2019.
Bacchus must have three dozen wines by the glass, including several organic. I had a superb aromatic Anatolian white there yesterday, and a seriously fruity viogner.
Volume is more limited, and overwhelmingly Italian, but surely more than three red and three white.
The paucity, if it is indeed the case, of so-called ‘nature/biodynamic/or bio wine’ at these new and to be welcomed establishments is to be welcomed. In general the fad over the last few years for such tripe has resulted in some absolute filth being sold at hideous prices. I fail to see why growing your vines with less input and next to a cow’s horn full of shit by a full moon results in a doubling of price. There is either good wine or bad wine. The rest is sales wank speak.

If you are hankering for their amazing chocolate pots (which were on the menu since day one and never left), they are quite easy to make at home:

Use really good chocolate. They are bloody delicious.
I had a look at the menu yesterday, and it seemed as good as ever.

Anyway it's in Time Out today, pretty middling review, listed at £85 for a meal for 2.
