I've been lurking on here for around 2 years. I'm a 30 year old male with delusions of grandeur and strong middle class sensibilities. I live at the bottom end of Crouch Hill.
Hi.<div>Have read the forum before but not signed up. I've lived around Finsbury park since I was 10. On the seven sisters side, the Green Lanes side and now the Stroud Green side (well travelled). Interested in local issues and constantly amazed by how the area changes. </div><div><br></div><div>If Happening Bagel ever closes I will cry.</div>
Favourite would definitely be the park itself. It was vile when I was a kid. Comparatively few people used it and it never felt safe. Most of the people in it at any one time where up to some shady thing or other. To see it used by thousands of people on a summer day now is beautiful and just the number of parents, dog walkers, joggers and cyclists that keep it busy through all weather is great. It's a really nice park now as opposed to the sketchy place it once was.<div><br></div><div>Least favourite changes, probably just things that have been lost. A lot of the Irish character has been lost, although less so on the Stroud Green side. Greasy spoons mostly gone. I miss having a decent sized music venue since the Powerhaus burnt down but Silver Bullet is a nice smaller place. Just not being a destination is an issue for me. The amount of people who pass through Finsbury Park is huge but not that many people come here to do things. Rowans has been the main one throughout my life and that's on the way out. The mooted cinema in this City North development will hopefully be a welcome addition. There's not been a cinema in my lifetime but my aunt always talks about going Finsbury Park specifically for the cinema.</div><div><br></div><div>Another least favourite is the people moving in who would rather be living in Crouch End but can't afford it and just want Stroud Green to turn into Crouch End ASAP. They're banking on it changing a lot more.</div>
Though way before my time, I feel the loss of the legendary music venues that used to make Finsbury Park a destination. The fact that one of them has been taken over by a corrupt evangelical church is especial cruel.<div><br></div><div>Very interesting to hear your comments about the park.</div>
It's mind boggling to think that Finsbury Park had three large music/theatre venues mid 20th century but hasn't had even one for 30 years now. I know they have the concerts in the park still but I'm a city boy, I'd rather see bands in a building, with good acoustics and a bar with more than one beer option.<div>A venue the size of the Forum/Town & Country would be really good in the area. The Empire was in the perfect spot, could take advantage of both FP and Arsenal tubes. Sad I never got to go there or the Rainbow.</div>
<div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;">We should get one of the legendary bands who played the Rainbow back in the day to announce secret gig, and at the last minute declare that it's at the Rainbow again. Have tens of thousands of rockers turning up to reclaim the venue.</span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;">@ADGS, are you up for organising this?</span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;">Not much from the outside: </span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2681/4095907962_ef2900ffda.jpg"><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;">It's incredible inside:</span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><img src="http://www.uckg.org/uk/wp-content/gallery/finsbury-park/main.jpg"><br></div><div><img src="http://www.uckg.org/uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/rainbow-inside.jpg"><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;">I vote for Bowie:</span></font></div><div><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_VIt42ZwDrR4/TGBCWvoPrCI/AAAAAAAAD8k/bRgVC-xcuKw/s1600/david+bowie+live+rainbow+1973+front_1.jpg"><br></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="line-height: normal; font-size: 13.3333330154419px;"><br></span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;"><br></span></font></div>
I think you overestimate my organisational skills. I mean, yes, I do know an ex-PA of Bryan Ferry's, but I'm not sure that'll be enough to get Roxy Music reformed for a guerilla gig. Or that Roxy fandom these days would be the type to get the dogs of christ out even if it were.
Hello everyone,<div><br></div><div>I am Sara who lives locally and owns/runs Hettie Holland next to Vagabond Cafe. I have joined up to add my support to the discussions taking place regarding the road directly outside my shop. I am happy to be part of any applications or meetings that are happening as obviously it affects me directly. I think it would be a great asset to Stroud Green to have a designated pedestrian area that can fit park benches, cycle racks and plant tubs and create a focal point to Stroud Green which we currently lack. Consideration must be made though to the residents of Charter Court who will loose their parking - although during the day I can confirm that the majority of the vehicles parking on the slip road are taxis running from the taxi firms opposite and on Tollington. </div><div><br></div><div>I will also let you know when I am having any events at the store as I am trying to get a music night together in May where my fabulous 1970's Fender Rhodes electric piano gets played before it's sold. So any players - jazz/funk only ( there aren't enough keys for Mozart/Bach) do message me. </div><div><br></div><div>That's all for now - looking forward to seeing where the slip road discussion goes. </div>
Hi stroudgreen.org - nice to meet you. <div>I'm Sarah - I've lived in Stroud Green since 2004, have 2 small kids, I'm a video installation artist and I'm also just completing 2 years of training to start lead antenatal classes in Tottenham from August. </div><div>I'm looking to find an artists' studio space closer to home (I'm currently based in Hoxton) and thought this might be a good place to get idea and tips, and possibly even find a person/people to share with me, or who already have studio space locally and might want to share.</div><div>I'll post a separate discussion for that, I think, but thought I'd say hello for now x</div>
Hi!<div><br></div><div>I'm a swiss guy moving in the area.</div><div>After weeks of hunting I finally found a very nice appartement I'm really looking forward to enjoy since September.</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks for everyone posting here; it's very interesting to read all those different topics to get a better idea of the local community.</div><div><br></div><div> </div>
Hello, I moved to the area earlier this year. V pleased to have discovered this website and looking forward to getting to know the area better through all the discussions. Hot topics for me at present: decorating & furnishing our flat and learning to drive (who what how when) but I will post separately about that!
Hi, I've lived around this area for most of my life. I moved away in 99, and came back in 05. I've just discovered this page, so I thought I'd join up!
Eya everyone!<div><br></div><div>Longterm resident of finsbury park but newbie resident of stroudgreen.org</div><div><br></div><div>Bye for now </div> 8-X
Hello all! My husband and I moved to Finsbury Park a year and a half ago and absolutely love the neighbourhood. Looking forward to getting more involved in the community!
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Hi everyone! I am a UAL student/architect/singer who has moved into Sketch House a couple of months ago. At 32, I can safely say I am past the usual student demographic. I'd be interested in singing opportunities, poetry clubs and just generally new (older!) people I could have a drink with on the weekends. The area is really growing on me... sorry about the student invasion but I hope you will forgive me for that!</span>
Welcome! We'll try to sort another social soon. I'd love to hear how Sketch House is working out... is it a good place to live? Is the outside garden bit being well-used?
Hello there - I'm a radio producer who's about to move to the area but need a great plumber before I can do so! Can anyone help? Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated. Thank you - and very pleased to meet you all!
Hello,<div><br></div><div>I moved to Stroud Green a couple of years ago now and have just moved again, within the area, to a new place on Mount View Road. </div><div><br></div><div>Mostly I lurk...!</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
Good luck to you @Wing_Zone, your shop is always rammed whenever I go past. I'm sure everyone here will be pleased about new businesses coming to bring jobs and new things to the area.
I'd love to know why Finsbury Park was chosen at the first location. Either way, great to have you in the neighbourhood. My late-night post night out food options have just increased massively with you and Mono opening their van near the bus stops. Looking forward to trying the Buffalo Bliss - what does the SM mean?<br>
<div>Hello everybody!!!
