SGR road closed under railway bridges

The work under the railway bridge will finish in March. The bus station repaving should finish on Valentine's Day (according to the notice). The work to the LU platforms ends in September and then they do the Southbound platforms next year. The lifts would be ready by the end of 2017 (I think) Then there is the work relating to City North including the new shops, station entrance and ticket concourse which has not yet been rescheduled but may start in 2017.

It's just an absolute uncoordinated disaster at the moment! Having been through that SGR pinchpoint twice at rush hour, I genuinely think it's dangerous and probably illegal. People with bikes and buggies really struggle to get through. Who to raise it with, though? The road is closed as well as one side of the pavement. Work is going at the station that is forcing people to exit the station via Station Place and head back up Stroud Green Road. So footfall is higher that usual. The one side of pavement which is open has been narrowed to the width of approx. two people at a pinch point which is quite clearly dangerous. Don't say we didn't warn them - thanks Ali. If there is any serious incident Islington will not be able to claim they weren't told. What about Haringey, TfL, Network Rail and for that matter the police? There is a BT Police station right there!!!

BT Police will do nothing outside railway property. I once asked nicely a taxi driver to move off the cycle lane he was blocking it by parking on it. The taxi driver got very bolshie so I asked the nearest policemen to have word. On Wednesday night a woman with a buggy was almost in tears whilst trying to get through. She just couldn't move against the flow of people going the other way, got a wheel stuck against the fence and she had to tip the buggy to release it. I dread to think what it would be like for a wheelchair user.

The barrier layout has certainly seemed pretty poor. Myself, I quite like all the different work being done at once as although it makes the disruption much worse when it's on, that's better (in my view at least!) than having a protracted sequence of different things one after another.

Bus station has reopened and as verge suggested they have moved the barrier to the other side of the hordings. The road works under the bridge though have little to do with the LU station works other than that Islington is taking 'advantage' of the some works to rebuild the road, including changing the cycle lanes, etc. It would of made more sense if they had located the cycle lanes in nothing directions on the Haringey side as it leads you to woodcock road and the parkland walk which is on that side but hey 2 local authorities will never agree!

I thought the deal was that Islington had control of both sides of the road so layout work etc is coordinated as the "border" runs down the middle of the road. I know that sounds too sensible but I think thast is the way it is.

It has always seemed to me that Islington council couldn't give a toss about Stroud Green, look at the state of the place compared to the posh bits down in Highbury and Upper Street.<div> </div><div>Our pavements and roads are falling apart, rubbish everywhere on Stroud Green Road at prime time in the evenings.</div><div> </div><div>The rich bits of Islington don't look like that. <div> </div><div> </div></div>

I have been in touch with Islington council (who are carrying out the roadworks) this week, and I have raised the issue of the narrow section underneath the bridge. When I walked under the bridge yesterday the barrier had been adjusted slightly to create more space. However I agree that the space is still limited. Seems that the taxi drivers operating out of the taxi office on Stroud Green road, by the station have resorted to desperate - and somewhat illegal - measures in order to park whilst Morris place is being reconstructed. <div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"> </div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><img src="https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/jd2-4233ac78440a831319b69a57a722d89f-eu/IMG_2626.jpg"> </div><div> <div>After taking these I got a torrent of abuse from one of the taxi-drivers as well 'Come here you Motherf******' </div></div><div> </div><div>I'm happy to say to say that both sides of the road will soon have double yellows, and there a nice row of cast iron bollards is going in on the Islington side to protect the cycle-lane from car-door - one of my pet peeves with the cycle lane on the other side.</div>

Good on Islington. I have some sympathy with the taxi drivers (always use Capital) but parking anywhere on Stroud Green Road is not the answer.

As of late last week, the road is re-opened, with fresh double yellow lines the whole way and camera enforced no-waiting boxes.
