Sorry about this chaps, but in these stressful times can anyone enlighten me on how to ‘link to Flickr’ to make a photo from my Flickr photostream appear here? It used once to be possible but if so I’ve forgotten how to do it. Is Photobucket easier? In this day and age, it should be straightforward, but nothing works :-(
Thanks.
This is what I can find and tried - none of them work. With and without square brackets
Haringey Council have still not cancelled the big events planned for Finsbury Park in June/July. Even if the 45,000 or so youngsters attending might not get very sick if they catch the virus older members of their family will.
Probably best that random people don't film the police just doing their jobs, could be a million reasons to be arrested, their jobs are difficult enough at the moment than having people up in their faces videoing them.
All the police in the clip were wearing body cams filming away. I guess the police were not doing anything ilegal (although they were parking on and blocking the pavement) so why getting to get so upset? Like Luke G I wonder what the arrest was about.
Given there have now been several incidents of police being videoed illegally threatening members of the public with total abuses of power, including one case where the officer threatened to lie in order to be able to arrest someone, I think videoing the police is a really good idea. They have been given unprecedented powers - for good reason - and they need to be held to account. They should have no excuse for not wanting to be filmed.
Body cams are a good idea, harassing police officers just trying to do their jobs because a handful of them have stepped over the line is a different thing. I don't think you'd like to be filmed all day whilst you were at work to see if you'd done your job properly - do you think nurses and doctors should should be recorded too, in case they make mistakes? Playing devils avocado obviously, but I have friends in both professions, and the behaviour of the public sometimes needs to be thought about a little more deeply.
Yes, the nature of the police's power over our liberty, and the manifest risk of that being abused (especially in these times), puts them in a different category in my mind. I'm extremely glad that the several instances of such abuse have been captured on camera and I hope that it will discourage further incidents. If they are operating in the public good then they should have no concerns about scrutiny.
I'd suggest that there is a difference between an honest clinical mistake in a medical setting and a deliberate abuse of power.
Just wondering if anyone is not currently staying in a studio or flat, and might be happy to rent it for two weeks to a couple returning to the area who need to isolate for two weeks before coming home (as parents vulnerable). We need somewhere close to SGR, and separate accommodation rather than a share. Please send DM to discuss details, many thanks
Arkady is spot on. The police have a horrific record of abusing their powers, and any decent officers should welcome independent video records of interactions with the public. For example, the police have killed 1500 in custody - a third of them people of colour - without a single prosecution.
The journalist in this film was maintaining a reasonable distance and wasn't in anyone's face. He identified himself as a journalist to the officers who threatened him.
They DIDN'T keep social distance, the sergeant shouted at him without any face mask and came much too close - truly dangerous bad practice. What the sergeant said was wrong - the National Police Chief's Council have issued guidelines to all officers highlighting that journalists are key workers and should be facilitated, as they 'promote good community relations'.
The TSG are particularly notorious for acting above the law, and this officer's conduct was typically unnecessary, inflammatory, and pointless. The film of a woman being arrested in a calm manner and placed without incident in the van would have never been published, but if she'd been assaulted or mistreated, the independent record would have been vital to justice. This is why it's important to film the police.
"Journalist" guy could at least refrain from such a clickbaity, misleading title for his video if he wants any credibility.
Does he not hear the woman repeatedly stating "I'm not possessing" as she's led out of the park, which rather suggest she's been stopped for (or thinks she's been stopped for) something drug-related, and not just "walking her dog" as he insinuates?
And what gives him the right to video and publicise her? Let's suppose she is entirely innocent and she doesn't want to be broadcast on some facebook page like that?

The helicopters seem to have been flying around taking pictures for twitter. But the pictures seem to show very empty parks.
Anyone know anywhere local doing takeaway? It's my wife's birthday tomorrow and she could do with a treat.
Has anyone noticed how 'ramped up', 'at scale' etc have become the latest meaningless bits of jargon at the five o'clock non-briefing?
Thanks.

For instance I've got Diana Ross tickets at the O2 in July and that isn't cancelled or rescheduled yet.
When the government extend the restrictions again in a few weeks they'll cancel it.
But Finsbury park is going to be in a lot of trouble after this summer. There'll be no budget generated for it at all. It's going to fall apart.

Arkady has said it better than I can.

Lockdown or not, a free press is vital. I hope this is picked up elsewhere.
