A random question going back to Vista's comments on 29th Jan (I'm still catching up, bear with me)... Any particular reason why the social housing flats are being planned with a separate entrance to the luxury flats?
It could be percieved as a clumsy attempt to preserve the resale value of the latter, albeit at the risk of cultivating an 'upstairs downstairs' divide - or is this actually normal practice for such developments and as such not particularly subversive?
I second the Laserquest request! Or howabout Boombar...old restauranter driven out of N8 (no doubt) by greedy councillors and their "maintain the churn" business rates policy.
I would like somewhere to buy bread, wine etc from a good range that's not too posh. With wine-tasting and food samples to encourage people to buy!
Also there is nowhere to get last-minute gifts/cards/clothing for birthdays etc, without going into Crouch End or town. Has Home closed down? I think location has a lot to do with success of the units round here. You don't even notice Home when you walk past. If it had been on the other side of the road, among all the restaurants, it might have got a lot more passing trade.
I agree with lots of others about not wanting a chicken shop, betting shop, corner shop, lap 'dancing' club or another wig emporium!
In general I think it would be better to have retail rather than another restaurant/cafe; it would be good to rely less on Tesco.
Over the weekend, I had a perfect idea for a shop to go into this development.
Then I realised how much of the value of the idea that I would personally capture.
Externalities and free-riding. Having an economics degree is a bitch.
Vista,
Can I ask how much the flats are going to be on the market for?
I have been renting in Finsbury Park for 3 years and could well be interested...
Development on that site is great news (have just caught up on this whole thread and joined stroudgreen.org), I love our area and think it's improving all the time.
Apart from the pot hole by the development. I am going to write tot he Water Board.
I've noticed all work has stopped on the site. Does anyone know the contractor's name; I work for a construction magazine and could do some digging (ha...so funny).
Such a shame, I walk past it a lot and nothing is happening there any more. I wonder what will happen to it, its a bit of a mess with all the scaffolding and the walkway with all the hording.
Oh that's a shame, going to be a bit of an eyesore for a good while longer. Pity about the losses etc at BMH. Wonder if Vista will continue with the project? Started building them about 3 years too late I guess.
Our builders have gone into administration - another casualty of this recession.
We are negotiating with new builders and work on the development will hopefully resume in the next few weeks. Rest assured the devlopment will be completed - abeit a little late.
Hope you get it sorted. Just out of interest, how do you go about agreeing what to pay the original builders? My work finance department is obsessed with credit checking our clients at the moment but not our suppliers so I'm wondering how it works...

(not really in favour of a lap-dancing place myself)
