It did sound as if they could have put their prices up a bit and maybe have been a bit more hard nosed commercially. Because it looks like it was a success story in many ways - good food, popular and serving a social good.
I went to the MIND cafe once, and I had no idea it was also a training thing - I thought it was about using surplus food and providing a social hub for MIND's regular clients. Pity the training aspect wasn't played up more. The food was excellent! 'Filling The Gap' (was in N15, not sure where it is now) also uses surplus food, as do occasional lunches organised by Transition Finsbury Park.

This is a pretty bad outcome for the Robey. It has been sitting there rotting for a decade and a half with unclear ownership and status, but I had always hoped it would reopen as a commercially viable premises of some sort.
I've spoken to my contact as Islington planning. As the article suggests, they escalated this all the way up to Eric Pickles, who concluded that it wasn't worth saving.

I fear it would take more than a petition to move Eric Pickles.

Noticed in passing that the boards have been taken down from around the redevelopment on the corner of Corbyn and Evershot - revealing that it has been converted into 8 individual dwellings (that's the number of door buzzers anyway). Not bad for an end of terrace house...

THis appears to be only for the corner building - any idea what's happening to the actual garage? On google maps it appears there is a whole load of buildings behind it which I can't work out what they are.
The City North cinema is starting to peak my interest. Four medium-sized screens, one sizable one. I thought they were pitching for the ArtHouse/Everyman crowd, but this looks to be a competitor with the big boys... or maybe somewhere in between.
